Thin Man Film Series

Post by prosecutorgodot »

The Thin Man series was a set of 6 movies in the 1930s and 1940s. Each movie is a standalone murder mystery, but they work better, like a sitcom, if you watch in order. It is about a detective and his wife, Nick and Nora Charles, played by William Powell and Myrna Loy, who solve murder cases together. These films combine the crime/mystery genre, with the witty dialogue of a sitcom or romantic comedy.
The on-screen chemistry between Powell and Loy is pretty fantastic. Each film finishes with the classic "get all the suspects into one room" approach, which is always fun. For one or two of these, the audience can almost solve the crimes themselves, but for most of them you watch Nick and Nora investigate and observe the outcome at the end. The setting shifts between New York, San Francisco, and other American-like environments.

Anybody seen these films? They're not all great, but they're a lot of fun to watch.
