Quite interesting how on some of the lists the individual nationalities clearly shine through. Some are pretty much TSPDT core (e.g. Harold, who usually can be found among Bill Georgaris' special contributors whenever a new update gets released), others are way closer to the sentiments of the American mainstream (e.g. bootsy, who even found room for Bay, Emmerich and Verbinski at the bottom of his list). Here are parts of a post I sent to Jimmy, which specifies my criteria and lists all the films by each director on my list that I had seen at the time:

this list was harder for me to do than a list of albums, films or even musical artists as I am often only familiar with a rather small fraction of each auteur's body of work. In the beginning I was wondering whether I'd be able to put together more than a decent top 10 but in the end I had a top 50 that I am actually quite satisfied with. The questions I asked myself for determining each auteur's rank was something along the lines of: How much do I enjoy the auteur's films that I have seen? At this point, how likely am I to check out films that are considered among the lesser ones within the auteur's œuvre? Also, how much do I feel the auteur has created a distinct style that sets him apart from his peers?

My cut-off was at two films. If I had seen less than that, the auteur wouldn't qualify, no matter how much I'd loved that film, no matter how much I figured I'd enjoy the rest of the auteur's body of work. Thus, no Bresson (only seen "Pickpocket"), no Ozu (seen nothing, though I do own "Tokyo Story" on Blu), even if I do think both would probably make at least the top 20 had I seen more.

I send you one elaborate list specifying all films I've seen by each director and how much I liked them, and one plain list to make it easier for you to extract the relevant data. Additionally, I'll list for you the directors I've seen the most films by that didn't make the cut.
