Avatar is one of the more recent films that can be included in the list of greatest films ever. It is the highest-grossing film of all time. I am looking forward to the 3 sequels which are to follow it.

I immediately lost interest. Give me foreign cinema over Hollywood 99% of the time. Independent films in English are another story of course, many of those are excellent, but they are not Hollywood.granit wrote:best English-language films ever

Best English-language, live-action, theatrically released, scripted films in sound!
Silent movies are amazing! Don't exclude those.
Very narrow criteria, but not very exclusive.
I've already seen a few. Good list, but needs more silent/foreign films.

This list has some great films on it, but you have to view it from a Hollywood sentimentalist point of view. This list values big productions, big budgets, and lots of tugging on heartstrings. If you're looking for Hollywood films successful at doing that, this is the list for you.

There's a huge difference between 'best' and 'highest-grossing'.smith32 wrote:Avatar is one of the more recent films that can be included in the list of greatest films ever. It is the highest-grossing film of all time. I am looking forward to the 3 sequels which are to follow it.

Don't want to be a bummer, but the list seems rather random to me.
A film like Ben-Hur in the top 20 of best films, that's kind of odd...
I agree with Irreducible and Jirin.

This list is as much a joke as that Phi Phenomablabla trash list recently posted.
BTW, that user "Smith32" guy is a spammer , seeing as how he resurrected a dead thread just to mention Avatar, and included a link to Ranker.com. He should probably be kicked off.

I just wanted to be one of those ghosts
You thought that you could forget
And then I haunt you via the rear view mirror
On a long drive from the back seat...

For me it's a good movie, a GREAT movie if you want, but not the #1. There are some masterpieces out there.GucciLittlePiggy wrote:Damn straight.LucidSamples wrote:for me shawshank redemption is undisputed #1

Apocalypse Now creeps up there for me, but Shawshank has been a very singular cinematic experience for me.
