Films of the '60s: 1964

Post by Stephan »

You can post a list of anywhere between 1 and 15 films (or more, but only 15 will be counted) from the year we're covering. The deciding factor in terms of release dates is the RYM list and the top 10 of each year will go on to the final top 100. The deadline is April 30th.

The points scheme is as follows:
1. 50
2. 40
3. 30
4. 20
5. 15
6. 10
7. 9
8. 8
9. 7
10. 6
11. 5
12. 4
13. 3
14. 2
15. 1
However, these are the maximum amounts of points. If you want to put certain films on your list but don't want to give them too many points, you can choose to give these less points than in this scheme (but never more) to decrease the impact on the overall results. If you don't specifically state that you want to give (some of) your films fewer points, I will assume the standard scheme.

Here are some lists to remind you of the great (and awful) films released in 1964, from a variety of sources:
IMDb
RYM
Films101
RottenTomatoes

My Fair Lady is the least favorite movie of the year for me too but definitely not among my all time pet hates. Bande à part is probably a Godard movie I like the most.
This time I will give points to all top 15 movie because it's almost impossible to rank movies from #7-#15 (also #2-#6 are very close to each others).

1. 砂の女 [Woman in the Dunes]
2. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
3. Bande à part [Band of Outsiders]
4. Černý Petr [Black Peter]
5. Soy Cuba
6. The Night of the Iguana
7. 怪談 [Kwaidan]
8. Les parapluies de Cherbourg [The Umbrellas of Cherbourg]
9. Il deserto rosso [Red Desert]

11. Mary Poppins
12. Per un pugno di dollari [A Fistful of Dollars]
13. Goldfinger

I'm following a couple of information seminars on my new job, so I don't have access to my computer and my Excel sheet, which means I cannot post the results until probably the 4th. I'll go ahead and post the next year already though.

By the way Stephan. What was your personal list (I guess you voted at least for Kwaidan (because it has only 5 voters and apart from Greg's #2 only some casual points) and Strangelove, Dollars, Goldfinger...

Nice that Gertrud made it, didn't expect that.
Guess 1964 wasn't a very good year in general.

Really? A 1964 film list on a music forum, and A Hard Day's Night doesn't make the top 10?
