Here's one for StevieFan13 project of the top 1990s songs: Metal Hammer just dropped a timely list of the top 100 metal songs of the decade. Happy?

Anyway, there's a 1-song-per-album rule. Here's the link and further down the list, as usual:

Nice! Throwing some metal into the mix. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" being here doesn't surprise me all that much; you already said Nevermind is a pretty frequent presence on metal album lists, so it makes sense that they'd single out its most famous song. Plus, they throw in all the other famous grunge acts as well. Putting them behind Korn, though? Yeah, I dunno...

"November Rain," "Tonight, Tonight," and "Firestarter" don't strike me as particularly metal, though (the most metal song off Mellon Collie would probably be "Bullet with Butterfly Wings"). Also, where's Green Day? Do they count?

I was sort of sarcastic, to be honest ;)

Yeah, there's some oddball stuff there too. Except for "November Rain", as this kind of power ballads is easily associated with the metal culture, especially if it comes from an acknowledged hard rock act. The other two are pretty weird however. And you're right, it looks like aside from some post-hardcore (and by some, I mean Refused), punk wasn't very acknowledged in this list.

Well, I'm done digging the TeamRock website archives. There are also shitloads of top 10s, genre-specific lists, a weirdly compiled top 300 around 2010 that I chose to leave because the eligibility might be very dubious, and unfortunately a top 50 Queen songs from 2006 that is only available to subscribers (dang!), and the top 100 metal albums of the 90's that comes with this list and is also only available to subscribers. Gee.

I had a subscription for a while - maybe I'll renew it quickly and dig those two up.

Hey, that'd be great - especially for the Queen songs list. Regarding the 90's albums, it might be necessary to check whether it has the same limitation as the 21st century albums did (i.e. inclusion of public vote), but I don't see any mention of it, so I guess it's OK.
