Circus: The Top 100 Hard Rock Albums of All Time (1988)

I'm having too much fun looking for those vintage lists, I have to stop. Hopefully the last one, from Circus, a music magazine which ceased publication in 2006, and which like Hit Parader started as a pop music outlet before switching to heavy metal & hard rock exclusively in the mid-80s. This list dates back from 1988, when they had already switched, but their definition of hard rock was apparently not well locked at the time (Big Brother & the Holding Company? David Bowie? Lou Reed? The Rolling Stones?). In alphabetical order with a three albums max per artist rule.

OK, I've pushed heavy metal and hard rock to an obnoxious level without even being a metalhead myself. Time to retire and wait for the album update in two years to admire my sabotaging work :P

I'm more fascinated that Foreigner is hard rock.

I have no idea when AOR was associated with heavy metal culture. It's been that way ever since the 80's apparently and it's still that way today as the AOR list I posted was published by a predominantly metal editor. That's something I've been wondering about for a while now.
