NME: (UK) 17 Must Hear Dunedin Sound Classic Tracks (2014)

Here is a link to an article by NME talking about 17 Classic Dunedin Sound Tracks.

I think it should hopefully be eligible as the 'Dunedin Sound' wasn't a genre and all the bands were not based in this city. So to me it is not a genre list but more a vague label to try and group these different bands. Some of these bands were on the 'Flying Nun' record label and some were not.

As quoted from Wikipedia:

"The artists themselves tend to eschew the genre title, "Dunedin Sound"...Not all of these musicians are from Dunedin, but all show the influence of the music which emanated from the city in the 1980s"

A better title for this article might be: 'Classic tracks by NZ bands from many different cities of the early to late 80's'.

For the uninitiated, the 'Dunedin Sound' era was a highly influential period of NZ music that had followers overseas e.g. Pavement. You can read more in the Wikipedia link below:
