It isn't? How much of the music was written specifically for the film?

1. "If You Leave" written for the film
2. "Left of Center" written for the film
3. "Get to Know Ya" written for the film
4. "Do Wot You do" written for the film
5. "Pretty in Pink" re-recorded for the film
6. "Shellshock" not written specifically for the film (I think), but unreleased on album at the time
7. "Round, Round" not written for the film, but unreleased on album at the time
8. "Wouldn't It Be Good" cover recorded for the film
9. "Bring on the Dance Horses" previously released on Songs to Learn & Sing (but written for the film)
10. "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" previously released on Hatful of Hollow

There you have it ;)

Got it! I just wish I knew which soundtracks were eligible and which ones weren't (I'm 99% positive that one of the most famous ones here, Pulp Fiction, isn't eligible).

Yeah, Pulp Fiction isn't ;) . Other famous cases are Trainspotting, Easy Rider or American Graffiti. Another interesting case was The Harder They Come, which was featured on AM for years before Henrik finally decided some time ago that it was ineligible and took it out (it's very rare when Henrik deletes entries entirely from the website)...

More generally, various artists albums are always a chore. During the time I've spent working on lists for the spreadsheet I've run into a lot of compilation "samplers" of national scenes, newly-established labels or subchapels of metal, punk or reggae for instance; the only way to confirm their eligibility was to check track-by-track if the songs were released before... Thankfully, Discogs has become a wonderful tool for that.

I think The Harder They Come should be added back. If Saturday Night Fever is on the site, which is featured on best album lists about as often (if not more than) Harder They Come, it shouldn't be left out.

That’s a good idea, but perhaps under OTHER CATEGORIES instead (although soundtracks are a RYM genre). I need to think about it.

Ok, done! :D

I think it’s a descriptor rather than a genre.
