The list of 300 is already on AM. The list of 100 was chosen by listeners (and artists).

Thanks for all the confirmations Henrik. I'll be working on several of these. Just a question about this one which is listed in JR's summary:

Was it ever confirmed and added? Thanks in advance for the answer.

They do mention how well they sold for some of them. I guess you're right. But that was just the 21st century one - I think these were just supposed to be historically significant country songs (for that matter, I'm pretty sure the highest-selling 70s country song was Jolene, but it isn't on that list).

All right, I changed the verdict to eligible, even if they seem incapable of writing an article without mentioning Billboard, hits, sales and stars.

Thanks. Yeah, something about country music - more so than any other American genre - is that they are obsessed with how well singles and albums sell. Other countries are more inclined to look for deep cuts, but not country. It's the hits or nothing.
They also have a habit of making country stations play the same songs over and over and over again. That's how a country track can go platinum without it making much of a splash on the pop or rock stations. To be fair, pop music works very similarly, but most of that has more overlap than country. A song like, say, Get Lucky can become huge because it's played all over the country on different stations, local and national. For a country song - My Church, maybe? - to go platinum, the country stations in the south have to play it RELENTLESSLY.

Enough research will show that hip hop actually favors less commercially-successful artists in equal measure. Tribe Called Quest, for instance, never had that many radio hits, and some albums and artists are a lot more revered in the rap community than in general consensus (if more rap lists counted, Jay Z's Reasonable Doubt would be way higher than #800 on AM).
Common, Raekwon, and Boogie Down Productions never had many hits either. That isn't to say rap isn't commercially-averse, of course - classics like Nuthin' but a "G" Thang or Gold Digger were smash hits and are also highly regarded.

I agree. Hip-Hop doesn't celebrate the sales as much as country. Artists like Jay-Z, Master P, Puff Daddy for example loved to boast about numbers but on a whole the best artists of the genre aren't celebrated because of sales. Hip-hop was never really about sales. Look how poorly MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice were received when they sold a bunch of albums. They got hammered for being popular. The origins of hip hop were word of mouth type of publicity in the streets and in the clubs. It eventually got commercialized in the 90s but fans still recognized quality over quantity. It got a little bad in the late 90s and early 00s with Ja Rule, 50 Cent, Master P, Puff Daddy, Ma$e with sales but was quickly restored with quality in the early to mid 2000s with artists like Clipse, Madvillain, Common, Kanye, and Lupe Fiasco. Meanwhile country celebrates Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift for a hot minute and those artist don't seem to get the backlash like hip hop. Those artists are still look at as much pop but I never got a sense of all out negativity for those artists.
