MOJO celebrates the 50th anniversary of The Who with a panel-selected top 50 songs list. Interesting comparison to the Rolling Stone list, with a lot of the same obvious choices but some refreshing (nice to see "The Good's Gone," an underrated My Generation track) and screwy (more of their post-Moon output than I was expecting) ones as well:

Baba O'Riley
My Generation
Won't Get Fooled Again
Substitute
Behind Blue Eyes
I Can't Explain
The Real Me
I Can See for Miles
5:15
Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere
Young Man Blues
Pinball Wizard
I'm a Boy
See Me, Feel Me [single version]
The Kids Are Alright
Pictures of Lily
Love, Reign O'er Me
Armenia (City in the Sky)
Who Are You
The Seeker
I'm One
Boris the Spider
I'm Free
Circles
Bargain
So Sad About Us
A Legal Matter
Tattoo
Magic Bus
Heat Wave
A Quick One (While He's Away)
Happy Jack
Our Love Was
Disguises
Dreaming From the Waist
Naked Eye
Endless Wire
Run Run Run
You Better You Bet
Heaven & Hell
Rael 1 & 2
Dogs
I've Known No War
The Good's Gone
Tea & Theatre
Amazing Journey
Eminence Front
Going Mobile
Jaguar
Zoot Suit [first single, as The High Numbers]

Five non-Townshend compositions here: Entwistle's "Boris the Spider" and "Heaven & Hell"; the legendary Live at Leeds cover of Mose Allison's "Young Man Blues"; The Who Sell Out's opening track "Armenia (City in the Sky)," which I don't think a lot of people know was written by Thunderclap Newman's John "Speedy" Keen; and, bizarrely, the cover of "Heat Wave," which I'm pretty sure most fans consider pure filler on A Quick One.

The Top 3 are expected and interchangeable. I would have been pleasantly surprised if "Substitute" was #1 just as I was surprised by Neil Young's "Powderfinger" and the Beach Boys' "Surf's Up" in the other artist's specific lists. Also, I'm slightly disappointed that "Pinball Wizard", "The Kids Are Alright" and "Love, Reign O'er Me" didn't make the Top 10.
