Why are Daft Punk not on this list?

1 They sing in English
X They do not play rock
2 They are not good enough

First I thought 1, but then I saw Air's "The Virgin Suicides" on the list which I believe is entirely in English. Also, Air is not more rock than Daft Punk. That means 2, doesn't it?

I'm asking because I want to blank non-eligible albums (if any other than the obvious non-French) in my spreadsheet, so they don't get an unfair punishment of not being on the list.

I'm sorry Henrik, I don't understand the meaning of your last sentence (wich non-eligible albums in wich spreadsheet) ?

And I think they simply don't consider that a daft punk album is good enough to fit in the top 100 ;-)

That's because in his spreadsheet, Henrik must blank all French albums that are considered not eligible for the Rolling Stone list, and asks if Daft Punk are considered French rock or not.

Actually, the matter is at the same time more complicated and more simple: the rock critics intelligentsia in France for the most part developed in the 60s and the 70s and, like Rolling Stone US, they have a complicated relationship which post 70s musical genres (the rootsiest magazines of them all being Rock & Folk and Rolling Stone, with Crossroads being a particular case, since they claimed to be a roots mag in the first place). French hip-hop is totally absent from this list, French house is nearly absent. 80s synthpop is featured through Stephan Eicher's "I Tell This Night", Elli & Jacno's "Tout va sauter" and Taxi Girl's "Cherchez le garçon", but while Étienne Daho's "Pour nos vies martiennes" and Niagara's "Quel enfer !" feature some synthpop tracks, they also have guitars. I guess Air's saving grace is their sound similarities to "Melody Nelson" and Pink Floyd.

And I'm still puzzled by Léo Ferré's entry. It's a chanson album with only a handful of jazz-rock tracks (two or three at best on a double album).

In conclusion, I believe this list to be somewhat roots-inclined, as illustrated by its n° 1, "Osez Joséphine". IMO, "Melody Nelson" or "Fantaisie militaire" should be better candidates for the title of best French rock album ever.

Higelin "Caviar pour les autres" & "Champagne pour tout le monde" are two separate albums

Indeed, but they were also released as the double album "Champagne et Caviar" and are mostly encountered under this format today. Mine and my father's copies are of the double album, at least :)

I'm not agree with that.
In music story, it's two separate albums and a different rating for each album.
Same thing with "Guide du cd".

I know, in "La Discothèque parfaite de la chanson française" they are listed as separate releases as well. That's not a big issue anyway, I guess. Henrik will decide.
