Rolling Stone: 100 Greatest Neil Young Songs

Postby Harold » Sat Sep 06, 2014 11:19 pm

Rolling Stone has issued a new stand-alone special single-artist magazine, this one devoted to Neil Young. As much as I love Neil, I'm not spending $12.99 for this - if someone could post the top 100 songs list from the back of the magazine, that would be great. I'd let you know what #1 is, but I gotta go - there's a white boat comin' up the river, with a big red beacon and a flag and a man on the rail ...

Super surprised by that number one. I dig it, though.

Yeah, a nice choice. It's not mentioned that much as a Young classic, but it is my second favorite Neil Young song.

A question:

Is #12 a combined "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)"/"My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" entry, or is "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" not on the list at all?

Just went back and reviewed this issue; the blurb for #12 references "... but Kurt Cobain flagged a line from the acoustic version that opened the album in his suicide note..." so it seems pretty clear that it's Hey Hey all the way. Out of the Blue is just out.
