✅ In The Mix (AU) Best Dance Albums of the 90s and 00s

Post by irreduciblekoan »

This is a solid electronic music site that I've recently discovered. Being a fan of dance music myself, I appreciate their coverage of the genre. While they don't have many lists (for example, they only made an EOY lists for 2010, as far as I can see), the lists they have made are very good. For example they have what is in my opinion the best list of DJ mix CDs out there http://www.inthemix.com.au/lists_and_gu ... f_All_Time

I was wondering, Henrik, if their lists of Best Dance Albums of the 2000s and the 1990s were eligible for AM. I am afraid that I do not know how to check Alexa ratings. The lists appear to be voted by the site's contributors/staff.

Top 30 Dance Albums of the 1990s: http://www.inthemix.com.au/lists_and_gu ... of_the_90s

Top 50 Dance Albums of the 2000s: http://www.inthemix.com.au/lists_and_gu ... _the_2000s

When I have more time in the future, I will write out the complete lists here. I have to go to bed now.

Not so strange when you consider that DJ Mag's list of best dance albums from "since 1991" (which AM includes) contains Eminem, Dr Dre, and Wu-Tang Clan, haha. I do consider hip-hop albums great "electronic music" when they are produced very well, because after all, the beats are electronic. And Dr Dre is more known for his production work than for his rapping.

I suppose, but hip-hop acts don't come instantly to mind when I hear "dance," ya know? ;)

That's true, but if you think about it, many dance clubs play hip-hop tracks. Heck, some American cities have more hip-hop centered dance clubs than, say, house techno these days. Also, we must remember that "dance music" doesn't literally mean only music that makes you dance. I think of it as just another name for the "electronica" genre, which is why we can have acts such as Air, Autechre and The Orb on such lists. In The Mix calls itself an EDM (Electronic Dance Music) site but they cover the entire spectrum of electronic music.
