More lists of music in Spanish!

Post by Henrik »

I've had a conversation with a RYM friend about Latin music lists. We have discussed the Rockenlasamericas list, which she thinks should be eligible, and she also recommends a few new lists. These lists (1-5 below) all look eligible to me. Blanco and others, it would be great to hear what you say about these lists.

This is what she wrote to me:

Hola

After a quick look: nice to see more lists to boost Latino music (well, rock, but that's still a beginning). I guess Blanco will be grateful for Café Tacvba, Caifanes and Rockdrigo Gonzáles! Also, great to see lists for Colombia, Venezuela and Cuba, there are not much lists from these countries yet. Once more, AM.net is doing a great job at expanding our musical horizons!

For my part, I hope the Rock en las Americas list is eligible. Seeing more Soda Stereo, Los Prisioneros or Charly García would make me happy, they are still some of my favourite artists. Just a little regret that the combined entries of Andrés Calamaro and his bands don't amount to much, it looks like he is underrated. If it was eligible, would it be included in this year's update?

Thanks Henrik for your dedication!

Edit: Henrik, after a closer look, I'm not sure I understand completely how the fourth list (EL ROCK CUBANO Y SUS AUTORES DESDE 1959) was conceived. Maybe Blanco should double-check its eligibility?

It is always good to hear from people like your friend. Maybe you can tell her to join the forum? It would be great!

I think every Rockenlasamericas's lists had a different process. I had mentioned something here. And I quote:
Blanco wrote:the lists from Rock en las Americas are very good lists, but I think they are not eligible because they are created on a blog, not a professional broadcast media. If you are still interested in this lists, It seems that although the blog is run by a single person, to create the lists he asks for suggestions to visitors of the blog, and asks their own lists to other bloggers from other countries in Latin America (more or less about 5 people). Based on these data, between the blog owner and those 5 friends, they agree to create a single list, and they create the result together.

I must say though their lists are great, and although they have a critical selection, they are not professional critics. (Although who is a professional critic?)
I must say that in my personal Latin music project, I actually use some RockEnLasAméricas's lists as a reference, and I would be happy if they were included here too. Actually, over time I have found that Rockenlasamericas have many other lists, so I will investigate the process in which each was developed, but meanwhile I will tell you my opinion of the other ones:

I have not updated the Latin music thread, but this list has already been uploaded here:

This one it's a great find too. It does not say how the list was made, but it seems eligible.

I'm afraid this one is not eligible. It even has some embarrassing misspellings. The top of the page looks somewhat choppy, so if you want to see the list, you can found it in the middle of the page, or here: http://www.indyrock.es/cuba.htm#lista.
It also says the following:
"se han concebido a partir de su representación histórica dentro de la vida cotidiana profundizando en las opiniones de las huestes amantes del genero y tomando en cuenta sin desdeñar las opiniones del publico en general."
Which means:
"They have been conceived based from its historical representation (?) in everyday life delving into the opinions of the followers of the genre and taking into account without disdaining the opinions of the general public."
I think that means that it was based on an audience poll.
Henrik wrote:5. Book: 100 Discos Esenciales del Rock Mexicano
Yup! I have this book. It is eligible, yes.

Yeah, you're right! I'm specially happy for Rockdrigo González; and from the other countries, too.

I have the same doubt as you. And yes, I also think we need more Calamaro. I would not say it's underrated, although it seems that with this list. It is very strange that he does not appear more often. Maybe we can fix that finding more lists.

Ah ah, yeah of course, but I guess that just typing "mejores canciones argentinas" in Google won't be enough at this point :D Who knows, if I feel like it maybe I'll just try some research one of these days!

According to that link, it was made by votation. I don't know if is eligible or not

It looks like it was public vote, and therefore it's ineligible :?

My browser blocks this link!

Here's what they say about the 2010-2014 lists (Google translate):

We call people we respect and consider musical friends. The vast majority work in the media, and among them are from respectable radio programs in their countries to blogs.
I think the lists could be eligible because of the bolded sentence. Is the 2009 list a pure readers' poll?

It was voted by 5 digital music journalists (but songs were suggested by more than 300 people, according to the link)

David Delio

Demon "El Amarillo" Balooni

Pablo Vera

Santiago Estevarena

For the 2009 list, I sort of understand it was popular vote, but it's not very very clear. I think it should stay ineligible until we know better.

I think it's clear. So why they discuss the final decision of those 5 people at the end?

Oh, yeah, you were talking about the 2009 list too? I didn't click the links you provided so I thought you were answering about the 2010-2014 lists. Now I did it and indeed it was done by music journalists. Sorry for the confusion, it's probably eligible then :angry-banghead:

So now you think the 2010-2014 list is ineligible? It wasn't anybody who could vote, but selected people, mostly working in media.

No, no, forget everything I said! "Me estuve hecho un lio", as Spanish people say, because I got confused between both lists and I initially thought the 2009 one was ineligible while it was. Both lists seem eligible :text-imsorry:
