Hey Henrik, I am not sure if this would qualify for inclusion, but here is the lost anyways. I purchased this one giant coffee table book a while back, which actually first got me really into rock and pop music and lead to me eventually discovering this site. It is called "The Definitive Illustrated Encyclopedia of Rock", which is, as its name suggests, is a giant, picture filled encyclopedia of rock/pop music. It features a large amount of write-ups contributed by a variety of music critics, including from publications like Rolling Stone and the Village Voice. These essays and paragraphs discuss various artists, and often in the process make mention and dissections of seminal singles and albums by these acts. It seems there are write-ups, and it was written by multiple individuals, so both of these two aspects are technically met. While the majority of lists found in the book are devoted to specific artists, there are also "Classic Recordings" centered around different decades. It is includes a mixture of singles and (mostly) albums):

"Roots" (Pre-1950s):
- "Mule Skinner Blues" / Jimmie Rodgers
- "Terraplane Blues" / Robert Johnson
- "I Can't Be Satisfied" / Muddy Waters

1950s:

- "Cry" / Johnny Ray
- "Tutti Frutti" / Little Richard
- "Hound Dog" / Elvis Presley
- "Wake Up Little Susie" / The Everly Brothers
- "Johnny B. Goode" / Chuck Berry

1960s:

- A Hard Day's Night / The Beatles
- Highway 61 Revisited / Bob Dylan
- Pet Sounds / The Beach Boys
- Are You Experienced? / Jimi Hendrix

1970s:

- "Stairway to Heaven" / Led Zeppelin
- Dark Side of the Moon / Pink Floyd
- Never Mind the Bollocks / Sex Pistols

1980s:

- Thriller / Michael Jackson
- "Every Breath You Take" / The Police
- Purple Rain / Prince
- Slippery When Wet / Bon Jovi
- The Joshua Tree / U2
- Like a Prayer / Madonna

1990s:

- Metallica / Metallica
- Nevermind / Nirvana
- "Smells Like Teen Spirit" / Nirvana
- BloodSugarSexMagik / Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Automatic for the People / REM
- (What's the Story) Morning Glory? / Oasis

2000s:

- The Marshall Mathers LP / Eminem
- Chocolate Starfish and The Hotdog Flavored Water / Limp Bizkit
- Kid A / Radiohead
- White Blood Cells / The White Stripes
- X&Y / Coldplay
- American Idiot / Green Day

I believe I have this book. :P Not sure if I ever inquired about its eligibility for AM, though.

Henrik, any thoughts? I have been trying to collect as many songs lists that I can find for your big expansion of the songs list! :)

Oh, I forgot to reply on this one. I think it should be included. Are there any reasons why it shouldn't? I'm asking since you own the book JR and didn't think about it (even though Madonna is listed!).

Thanks JimmyJazz!

Umm, since Limp Bizkit is listed, what was their criteria for their "classic recordings"?

I know, I know, the book's tastes and views on certain acts is pretty bizarre at some moments. I think they simply chose "defining" recordings of a decade, they speak positively about it. I know it's horrible, but if lists with the Spice Girls can be included, then this can be too, from my perspective.

Every now and then, a list includes something that's typically been acclaimed-challenged.

RE Spice Girls- "Wannabe" got some acclaim, and the album has received some notices, too.
