American Idiot? Yuck. On the other hand, I like that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is there. That album may have a chance yet to reach the AM top 100!

I don't have a strong opinion on MBDTF yet, but it's pretty clear that it's going to make a huge jump in the next update.irreduciblekoan wrote:American Idiot? Yuck. On the other hand, I like that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is there. That album may have a chance yet to reach the AM top 100!
Splish splash, I was raking in the cash
Re: The 100 Best Albums of All Time
I know this is REALLY premature, but does anyone else think MBDTF may just end up as the most acclaimed album of the decade when all is said and done? The acclaim behind this album is just so huge.
Re: The 100 Best Albums of All Time
This looks eligible for inclusion at AM. It's a book by two Australian critics, Craig Mathieson and Toby Creswell; Creswell was the author of the book 1001 Songs: The Great Songs of All Time, which is included here.
The only album on this top 100 that isn't currently in the AM top 3000 is #55, The Monkees' Headquarters.
I agree that MBDTF seems destined to - deservedly - rise in the rankings over time. I just hope that, given West's ongoing Kardashification, future commentary on the album doesn't become a case of "remember how great he used to be?"
Based on this list and the NME top 500, there seems to be a serious revisionist consensus building that Neil Young's On the Beach deserves to be ranked higher.

Re: The 100 Best Albums of All Time
He's got more to worry about - Mr. "Yeezus" has provoked the ire over the course of the year of the President, Jimmy Kimmel, and, thanks to his Confederate Flag wearing, various civil rights groups. I could go on a tirade about this dude... But I won't. Once again, not trying to stir up anythingHarold wrote:I agree that MBDTF seems destined to - deservedly - rise in the rankings over time. Re: The 100 Best Albums of All Time
I actually don't think Kanye has to worry about dwindling critical appreciation anytime soon. "Yeezus" is one of this year's most acclaimed albums and I foresee it doing very well on EOY lists. His personal life has always been the target of ridicule, but that hasn't stopped the critics, yet, from praising his music.Harold wrote:I agree that MBDTF seems destined to - deservedly - rise in the rankings over time. Yes, an interesting development, and one I agree with. I've always been a big fan of On The Beach. I also agree with this particular list that Darkness on the Edge of Town is up there with Born to Run as Springsteen's best.Harold wrote:Based on this list and the NME top 500, there seems to be a serious revisionist consensus building that Neil Young's On the Beach deserves to be ranked higher.

I'm guessing the "surprise" is that it's ranked that low, not that it's on the list at all.Nick wrote:"Remain In Light" a surprise?Mattceinicram wrote:For the most part very typical, except for this handful of surprises.

Re: The 100 Best Albums of All Time
If they're going to put Coldplay on the list (being the biggest UK band of the 00s) and they put Viva la Vida on there? Strange indeed.

36th on Acclaimed Music, 57th on this list. What a snub.Harold wrote:I'm guessing the "surprise" is that it's ranked that low, not that it's on the list at all.Nick wrote:"Remain In Light" a surprise?Mattceinicram wrote:For the most part very typical, except for this handful of surprises.

All those token soul albums, and no Stevie Wonder at all? Baffling.
