Re: MOJO (UK): The 75 Best Albums of 2020
Mojo and Uncut always do their end of year lists this time of year, they'll have reviewed any December albums most likely in the new issues and any surprise releases still to come are unlikely to be in their wheelhouse anyway.Edre Peraza wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 8:53 pm Talk about jumping the gun. Re: MOJO (UK): The 75 Best Albums of 2020
I guess that's true. But it just felt odd to me since big-league artists are expected to drop soon like Paul Mccartney, Young Thug, BTS, King Gizzard, Smashing Pumpkins, Yungblud, Deftones, and many more.charliepanayi wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 10:07 pmMojo and Uncut always do their end of year lists this time of year, they'll have reviewed any December albums most likely in the new issues and any surprise releases still to come are unlikely to be in their wheelhouse anyway.Edre Peraza wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 8:53 pm Talk about jumping the gun. Re: EOY 2020 - MOJO (UK)
Paul McCartney will be their one big omission true (I assume it won't have been sent for review yet), they'll probably stick it on next year's list.

Re: EOY 2020 - MOJO (UK)
I really do have much higher hopes for Paul Mccartney's new album compared to Egypt Station. I feel like him doin it all himself could lead to something great. Once again proving my point, why rush the list now.charliepanayi wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 8:31 am Paul McCartney will be their one big omission true (I assume it won't have been sent for review yet), they'll probably stick it on next year's list.

Could this be the Americana list for 2020? She compiled a similar list for 2019.

Re: EOY 2020 - MOJO (UK)
Don't think they do one normally. 1st song lists don't usually come until later, maybe last week of November.
Re: EOY 2020 - MOJO (UK)
MOJO on some years lists a "Song of the Year"
But it's only one song.
They never do song Lists.
We have to wait a copy of the magazine to see if they will name a best song this year or not.

Re: EOY 2020 - MOJO (UK)
Out of all the albums I am familiar with on this list I dont have too much of a problem with the list other than the fact that I dont see the hype around Fiona Apple, Fountaines DC, and Stefan Stevens this year.

Re: EOY 2020 - MOJO (UK)
As always, MOJO seems to deliver the best end of year list of all the music magazines. I always trust MOJO ahead of anybody else.
For the first time in MOJO's history, Dylan wins the album of the year title, richly deserved I might add. Murder Most Foul is the track of the year in my opinion. Completely brilliant. Tragic and moving. But also poignant and beautiful. Dare I say it, in a career that now spans 60 years, it's one of his greatest songs.
I loved Fiona Apple's record, and was thrilled with its ranking (#2). Fantastic to have a new record from Cornershop, and for it to be #6 in the list. Great respect shown to returning Britpop icon Jarvis Cocker and his terrific new project Jarv Is... (#7). And I was thrilled to see The Flaming Lips sneak into the top 10 with their best album in years.
One of the great surprises of 2020 was the wonderful and authentic album Taylor Swift released in July, Folklore. MOJO gave her a spot in their albums of the year list (#31) for the first time in her career, and she earned the accolade. It was also tremendous that MOJO saw fit to include albums by Run The Jewels (#8) and Phoebe Bridgers (#9) in the top 10. Terrific list as always.

Why don't you sit right over there
We'll do a movie portrait
I'll turn the camera on
And I won't even be there
A portrait that moves
You look great I think
