Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
I can see Rosalia snatching №1 spot on the albums list. It's her, The 1975, Kacey or Mitski in my opinion.
Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
Sadly I think Cardi B will claim their AOTY.cheekyjh2 wrote:I can see Rosalia snatching №1 spot on the albums list. It's her, The 1975, Kacey or Mitski in my opinion.
Anyway, “Love It If We Made It” is infinitely better than “Bodak Yellow”, so at least their songs list is decent this year.

Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
Agreed. Invasion of Privacy will be the number 1 album. I was hopping for Kacey, but whatever.
Interestingly, Pitchfork credits Beyoncé & Jay-Z as the artists behind the EIL project, and not The Carters. I know it is the same thing (this is their last name, not a group name or something), but I have a feeling that Acc. Music will separate the credits and consider it a different group, which will be very weird.

I just can't see Invasion of Privacy being their AOTY, it's going to be Noname or Mitski I reckon.

Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
Their Songs of the Year lists are usually a good indicator of what is coming for Album of the Year.
Noname only has 1 song on the list, so I guess you can risk her out. On the other hand, Cardi B has two songs on this year list and topped the 2017's one with a single from the same album. I just don't think they will resist naming IOP the top project of the year.

By that logic Robyn could be a lock for AOTY as she has two songs in the top 20. Mitski has two songs in the top 50 too. Also I can see Cardi B not being enough of a consensus choice.

Cardi has two songs, the number 1 from last year and an 8.7 reviewed album. Anyway, I could be wrong, sure.

I really don't like Cardi B

Sooo am I the only one who seems to think that this represents a potential return to Pitchfork's indie rock roots? 2018 was just as strong of a year In Hip Hop & R&B as It was In 2017, but It's not dominating Pitchfork's songs list the way It did last year (or the last five years, for that matter)
Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
Didn't Pitchfork release a whole video about Pusha T's latest album in their "Instant Classic" series? I'm surprised he only had one song in the list, and that song wasn't even from this album. I swear as I was reading and stalling at number 2, I was sure "If You Know You Know" was gonna be number 1. I guess "Love It If We Made It" acts as a great "THE song of 2018" with its large political scope, but I never expected it to be on the list at all, even with its Best New Music tag. Also, no Kali Uchis? All The Stars? Daughters? Those are pretty stunning omissions!

Yes! Weird list overall.
Some other strange omissions:
Saba - 8.7 album / no song on the list
Playboi Carti - 8.5 album / no song on the list

Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
The order is a little weird but I quite like this list for inclusiveness. Nice see all of these, some of which have been left out on lists so far. I also did not see This Is America missing out entirely while The 1975 made #1--that was a genuine upset.Setherex wrote:https://pitchfork.com/features/lists-an ... s-of-2018/

Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
Wow, I'm shocked "This is America" is nowhere to be found. I wonder if it has something to do with the plagiarism accusation.
Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
I don't think that's the only reason. I mean, "The Story of Adidon" just uses the same beat Jay-Z used 11 months earlier and yet that track managed to get quite high in the countdown. I don't think Pitchfork of all places would kick a song just for that. Personally, I expected Pitchfork to pass on it or to have it in the lower tier as I feel that song was seen more as a fad with an amazing music video than anything. Ironically enough, This Is America is getting better ranking outside of the USA right nowTVFan365 wrote:Wow, I'm shocked "This is America" is nowhere to be found. Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
I originally had that thought, but then I remembered their 80's list from a couple months ago and rethought that idea. I guess we'll see.Cold Butterfly wrote:Sooo am I the only one who seems to think that this represents a potential return to Pitchfork's indie rock roots? 2018 was just as strong of a year In Hip Hop & R&B as It was In 2017, but It's not dominating Pitchfork's songs list the way It did last year (or the last five years, for that matter)

It is a very nice surprise to see Mitski get the #1 spot.
I am baffled and devastated by the lack of votes for SABA though Sweetener by Ariana Grande is an alright album. There are some great production choices but it's not consistent from top to bottom.

Happy to see Mitski at #1
Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
So no "This is America" and no "Dirty Computer" which are both leading the year end lists right now. I'm convinced they went out their way to not include them
Re: EOY 2018 - Pitchfork (US)
Very stoked about Mitski's number one finish, as well as Earl Sweatshirt's. I was worried that album would get left off of a lot of EOY lists because of its late release, but it's looking as though that isn't really the case.
Also very impressed by Snail Mail's consistent high placements - I imagine she'll make a solid debut on the spreadsheets for both album and song.
Also I never really thought about it until now, but OIL OF EVERY PEARL’s UN-INSIDES has got to be one of the worst album titles I've heard in a while. The music is fine enough, but that title is just completely unintuitive.

I totally agree that it's a ridiculous title, but it's supposed to mean "I love every person's insides" when said aloud.acroamor wrote: Also I never really thought about it until now, but OIL OF EVERY PEARL’s UN-INSIDES has got to be one of the worst album titles I've heard in a while. That's a poor list from Pitchfork.

Pitchfork so schizo.
