There are a couple albums that seemed to get phenomenal reviews yet are being forgotten. V is by far the highest Horrors album on Metacritic and it's only in the 70s on the spreadsheet...
For me the surprise loser is Everything Everything. I thought there was some hype surrounding them when the album came out and it also seemed like the type of thing that would appear on EOY lists. It now ranks 131 on the spreadsheet. Perhaps the hype was imagined by me?

You're welcome, and Happy New Year to everyone!

If I'd known that Under the Radar would post its list less than 30 minutes later on Saturday, I would have waited on the update. I will probably post another update today after adding UtR and a couple of other sources that Sweepstakes Ron has included in the last songs update.

Sweepstakes Ron, I presume your next songs spreadsheet update will be the final one. I will look at what sources you have added and add corresponding album lists (if there are any) to my spreadsheet to finalize that as well. (Cross-posting this to the songs spreadsheet thread.)

My last seven posts within source threads are requests for transcriptions of album lists (if they exist). I would appreciate any help with these - thanks in advance! Once these lists are added, the spreadsheet will be final for the year.

Final update:

USA/Canada: Grammy Awards [winner]; Nashville Scene; Flood
Rest of the World: Monkeybuzz [Brazil]; CrazyMinds (Intl & Natl) [Spain]; Rolling Stone-Brazil (Intl & Natl) [Brazil]

I will not be adding any more data to this spreadsheet. As always, I have greatly enjoyed doing this, but also as always, I know when it's time to stop and I'm happy when it's over. 2017 is officially complete!

Sad that La Dosis and Zona de Obras hasn't been considered. I hope Henrik could check this on the review.

Thanks for your work Harold, i know it's really hard to make this kind of stuff, but you made it good.

I just don't have the energy at this point to add an unranked 150-album list (La Dosis). It likely wouldn't have had much overall impact on the spreadsheet. Henrik is of course more than welcome to add sources to the database even if they don't appear on the spreadsheet.

Panam, if you haven't gotten very far yet I'll bite the bullet and add the lists. I know how to add the formula and I'd just as soon do it myself. But that will be it!!!

Looking at this spreadsheet for first time. I'm not surprised Magnetic Fields is lower than it is on Megacritic but I'm surprised how much lower.

Besides the length, I think it took a hit not being immediately available on streaming, so at the time it was most hyped you had to pay $40 to hear it. Also being an introspective concept album full of mostly slower songs without hooks.

Whatever, it's in my top 5 easily.

I'm not too surprised Godspeed wound up lower, another band that's been putting out consistent quality for a long period of time but got critically praised in the 90s and not anymore. I'm a little surprised about Fever Ray's lack of critical recognition since The Knife and her s/t did so well with critics.

Not quite sure how a #16 spot on the EOY spreadsheet qualifies as a "lack of critical recognition"...

For me the biggest surprise is the #55 finish for Everything Now. Granted, #55 is a mighty steep drop for Arcade Fire, but considering how badly received the album was upon its release it's remarkable that it's ended up as high as it is on the spreadsheet. It's like everyone compiling their EOY list remembered that AF released an album, thought for a couple of seconds about whether it was really as bad as they remembered at the time, and decided, "Well, it's Arcade Fire - we have to at least put it here somewhere..."

Way slow getting around to finishing out this year, but my own personal reaction to the critical concensus

Should Be Higher On The List
1. LCD Soundsystem - American Dream - It was the year's best album imho
2. Big Thief - Capacity, Kamasi Washington - Harmony Of Difference, Valerie June - the Order Of Time, Moses Sumney - Aromanticism, Japanese Breakfast Soft Sounds From Another Galaxy, The Horrors V, and Wolf Parade - Cry, Cry, Cry -- these were all top 10-15 albums of the year to my ears.
3. Nadine Shah, Ulver, The Moonlandingz, Jane Weaver, Juana Molina, The Magnetic Fields, Run The Jewels also feel underranked.
4. Brand News - Science Fiction, Pumarosa's - The Witch, Fujiya & Miyagi's 2017 s/t release, Elbow's Little Fiction, Rodney Crowell's Close Ties, Jen's Lekmen's Life Will See You Now, Ex-Eye's Debut, Sparks Hippopatums, James Holden's Animal Spirits, and Floating Points Reflections - while not top 20 contenders, are all better than at least a third of the albums on this list, all of which I've heard.

Should Be Lower.
1. Kendrick - Damn is Damn good, but it wasn't the best album of the year, and it was the least interesting Kendrick release since his debut - a top tier effort in a weak at the top year by the off the moment artist, same way Yeezus stole the top spot a few years ago.
2. Love the National, but Sleep Well Beast is not top-10 worthy - it's their weakest since Alligator.
3. Other's worthy of appearing on list but over ranked relative to their competition - King Krule The Ooz, Slowdive, Fever Ray Plunge, Bjork, Queens Of The Stone Age, Arca.
4. Didn't strike me as top 100 worthy at all - Algiers The Underside Of Power, Wolf Alice Vision's Of Life, Destroyer, Gorillaz, Alt-J, Mac Demarco, Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett - surprising list as all artists I've been big on in past.
