Seems like while he 'did consult' other contributors, does appear, as in some other years, strongly influenced (if not more) by Sean Adams the editor.

Though he does say here Comment 98 (c10:40 23/11) https://community.drownedinsound.com/t/ ... e/20537/98

'Wolf Alice is also Dom Gourlay’s album of the year and Derek our featured editor loves it too. So this isn’t just my list or else Paramore would probably be number 1.'

& with Paramore being no. 13 there must be a fair degree of other views taken into account.

On reflection of the DiS forum discussion rather than the article there appears little difference to other years when (rightly or wrongly) deemed eligible

2014 http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4148 ... ms-of-2014

which has link to methodology that year at least (summarised above) https://medium.com/@seaninsound/this-is ... ab48d0ae75

In summary other contributors vote/consulted but not a straight totting up of votes (senior contributors more weighting, specialist genres considered etc.) and/or Forums views considered list drafted then consulted ...

2015 http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4149 ... -year-2015

'This poll has been done democratically, to a point. Various genre specialists' choices and senior staff picks were taken into consideration, even if no other staff member voted for them or they weren't picking up votes on the boards. In weighting the list like this - as we have done every year for the past 5 or so - it hopefully makes for a reflection of the music we've been passionate about this year, rather than an approximation of what was most agreeable to our team.'

2016 http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4150 ... ms-of-2016

'The positioning is a little bit arbitrary, ...However, we have also shared all of our teams’ top 3s ...These lists weren’t totted up, but were more of an advisement to create a representation of what ‘we’, the team behind DiS, love but also that ‘we’ includes the thoughts and feelings of many of you posting on our forums throughout the year.'

2017 https://twitter.com/DrownedinSound/stat ... 8201947136

' “Our” albums of the year list was compiled by taking into consideration:
High-scoring reviews
Conversations + monthly polls on our forums
Opinions of our editorial team
Then human filtered by our editor (so it isn’t his list, it’s a refraction of the above)'

and original article said the list could change (somewhere, I think FB thread, they said posted earlier this year as people sick of lists by mid Dec) and they appear to have made a 'FIRST revision' https://twitter.com/DrownedinSound/stat ... 8055450625

"Based on your celebrations of your favourites, here's the first revision of our top 20: @sza and Julie Byrne join the list"

https://t.co/AOIUsFnKSs

"Based on the first 14 hours of feedback from our team and the community on here and on social media, here’s the new top 20… this isn’t like Trump’s u-turn on Elephant hunting, but it will keep changing until the dust settles…"

1. Wolf Alice - Visions of Life
2. Kelly Lee Owens - Kelly Lee Owens
3. EMA - Exile in the Outer Ring
4. St Vincent - MASSEDUCTION
5. Noveller - A Pink Sunset For No One
6. Austra - Future Politics
7. Feist - Pleasure
8. Jane Weaver - Modern Cosmology
9. Laura Marling - Semper Femina
10. Juana Molina - Halo
11. Soulwax - From Deewee
12. Thundercat - Drunk
13. Paramore - After Laughter
14. SZA - Ctrl NEW (previously 42)
15. Bjork - Utopia
16. Mogwai - Every Country’s Sun
17. Zola Jesus - Okovi
18. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
19. Protomartyr - Relatives in Descent

Now outside top 20 but not sure where

so can't revise top 100/101, but subject to more revisions anyway ...

Oh, F this S. I spent an hour adding that top 100 list to the spreadsheet last night. Can someone update this if and when the "official" posted list actually has a finalized form?

They've now posted a straight totting up of staff votes. Only top 3s submitted so lots of ties, but irrespective of what happens with the more edited list, this one probably meets criteria for here better.

As much as I've been a big reader and fan of the site for well over a decade, Sean seems chronically incapable of doing EOY in a non-terrible way.

Do an editor's list, ask the contributers to contribute more than 3 albums each and let the forum take care of their own list.

Not difficult.

& list contributors and/or editors own list, then compare contract away and even produce some sort of cumulative/collaborative list using all of above...

though in his defence (as I really like him & the site) while it's not good for those who like to stick to rules, or compare like with like (which seems to be a large no.) it certainly is an attempt to bring a fresh approach/open up debate...

Discuss (25 marks)

Honestly don't know how to handle this for the spreadsheet. The "editor's list" is way too arbitrary in its methodology to be included, but I can't see including the entirety of this staff list either. Maybe cut it off at 3 points, or even just the top 11? Henrik, your thoughts?

I'd say at least the top 36 could be included, but it's your call.

looking at it again I think those that are listed 25= should actually be 12=, i.e. all on 3 points. I've also amended Jay Som to Everybody Works

More corrections (the website's fault, not Johnny B. Goode's):

*Mount Kimbie's album is listed twice.
*The Hajk and Weezer albums got combined into a single line.
*Lucy Rose's album is titled Something's Changing (it got ascribed with the same title as the album listed above it).

Christ, what a shitshow this is ...

I've now amended the list. From a quick check actually put Weezer on 2 points as it appeared to only get 1 2nd place (behind Hajk)

DiSclaimer:

I take no responsibility for any other errors (probably should have just posted the original top 100 then walked away :greetings-waveyellow: )

Doesn't appear to matter as Harold only took top 36. Again looks like they are in same list (& only once) with Charlie Cunningham 2 points & Amber Run 1 point.
