Spent a lot of this morning crying. No artist seemed to be pushing the boundaries of music more over the last several years. I feel at a total loss right now. And as a genderqueer person, seeing people like SOPHIE being celebrated made me feel safer in embracing myself. She was someone I looked up to; "Immaterial" is my anthem of self-acceptance.

"I could be anything I want
Anyhow, any place, anywhere, anyone
Any form, any shape, any way, anything, anything I want"

Rest in Peace, SOPHIE. You will be missed dearly.

Absolutely awful news. Whenever I see one of these threads, I feel a sense of loss, but it rises to a new, dreadful level when it happens to someone so young. She had been (and will continue to be) an inspiration to so many. SOPHIE will be terribly missed.

Apparently she fell to her death while attempting to view the full moon. Really just a tragic death.

Oh no, terrible news! One of the most important artists of our time, that helped break barriers like BleuPanda said.
Everyone you meet fights a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.

This one also hit me hard, not in the least because she was so young and that her debut promised (and delivered!) miracles. The unexpectedness of the death makes it all the more shocking. Rest in peace!

Favorite song, by the way, is Faceshopping, perhaps the greatest musical statement on identity fluidity yet.

This is so sad. An artist in her prime who was just beginning to get more attention. Sophie was one of the most innovative artists of the last decade and influenced a lot of the current direction in underground pop. I can tell from the outpouring of grief from a lot of other artists (Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek) how special she was.

A great loss
Although she died in a beautiful way.
I really connected with her music more after she died.
I heard a lot of Faceshopping these days ...
At least with the critics she had her work recognized
Anyway, on the day she died I was also looking at the sky over my head there were three blue stars perfectly aligned and I heard "Florais Astrais".
