Don’t be fooled by today’s song title (translation: Finally Weekend), we’re still in the middle of the week! It’s not on Spotify.

671. Sido – Endlich Wochenende
Year: 2004
Album: Maske (though it was cut from later versions of the album, which is probably why it is not on Spotify)
Biggest Fan: Krurze (#998)
The song on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOzqxm5 ... eisterEdaz

Sido – Endlich Wochenende: Sido is one of the biggest names in German rap history despite not being the most technically gifted MC. The album Maske, including this track, is credited with consolidating gangsta rap as the premier style in German hip-hop in the mid 2000's. Superficially, this is a track about partying heavily, made for listening while partying heavily. But upon listening closer, there's a bit more to it. For example, there is a line about going to a techno party with "Egon and Manfred", which were probably the most unfashionable names imaginable when the album came out. This gives the song a humorous, tongue-in-cheek twist and makes it sound more like a persiflage of the artist's image. This is very typical for early Sido songs. If you want, you can listem to them as the sterotypical self-aggrandizing gangster rap songs promoting violence and sexism. But after all this is just your weird, but funny and likeable neighbourhood guy that doesn't take himself too serious telling stories that are obviously greatly exaggerated. Also, the beats on this album, especially the Roe Beardie productions, are among the greatest in all of hip-hop. Steig Ein! is another great example that will maybe someday appear in this game. 9/10

Emilíana Torrini – Jungle Drum: Loved this when it came out. Still find it only a tiny little bit annoying. 7/10

Three 3's in a row...
"Jungle Drum" is probably one of the first songs I have ever hated, but I've softened on it. However, it is still annoying.

It's 1956 by the way. It entered the Billboard R&B charts in November 1956 on the original Hull label. It even entered the Billboard Pop charts in the last week of December 1956.

Emilíana Torrini – Jungle Drum: 8
Never knew this was famous. I only knew Torrini from Gollum's Song, which she did for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and for which I have a soft spot. I thought she was otherwise obscure, but apparently this song is infamous by some people here. I'd never heard it, but found it very amusing, catchy and memorable. Great off-beat sing-along song.

This is just a tad too slow for me.

I better not see you giving good numbers to even slower more modern records, like "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack or "Endless Love" by Richie and Ross.

The American Graffiti soundtrack had an immense impact on my childhood in terms of learning to appreciate "oldies"... glad my parents bought the album after they took me to see the film (9 years old at the time)!

Perhaps I need to add that the speed isn't the only problem, but that it also misses a sort of pull for me. It drags, even through it's short length.

Fint Tillsammans - Staden: 7
Very pleasant on the ears, with an appealing solo to finish it off. With a little more oomph (or perhaps if I could understand the lyrics) it could be great.

Little note in advance. The artist name on Spotify here says Kleenex instead of LiLiPUT. This is not a mistake; the band changed names.

Like an upbeat sounding mixture of The Slits and X-Ray Spex. I like it. I also like that they had to change their name from Kleenex to LiLiPut thanks to legal threats of the tissue company, but also seem to have been able to change it back.

Hymie is becoming a frequent provider for this game again. This time he brings a particularly obscure pick, with no votes on RYM for example.

Year: 1956

Don't think I ever heard The Doors play this bluesy. It suits Morrison's voice very well.
