AMF WC Classics Edition 99

Post by spiritualized »

Hello everyone,
It's time for instalment n°99 of the Classics Chart, where YOU get to nominate and vote for the best songs ever in a tournament to the death ! Only the cream of the crop will go through the grueling EIGHT weeks of charting.

Nominations will follow the rules below

- only the first top 1000 AM song nominated each week is eligible.
- only the first six top AM 1001-10000 songs nominated each week is eligible.
- that would leave 3 places each week reserved for un-acclaimed songs (if more than 3, the fourth unranked song will take the spot of a second tier one)

:scared-shocked: 140 votes last week (+5 votes)
:scared-shocked: On the top step of the podium : Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come
:scared-shocked: New Entries : R.E.M. / The Smiths
:text-bump: Kicked out this week : The Church / The Walker Brothers
:text-bump: A Tribe Called Quest & Regina Spektor (by a hair's breadth) reach the hall of fame for the first time !

Sam Harris - Don't Look in My Eyes (Unranked)

Pretty shock because when I make an album page titled 20+2 Giant Love Songs on Genius, it including Alphaville's Forever Young, Dan Byrd's Boulevard, Rockwell's Knife, and other songs including "Don't Look in My Eyes" by Sam Harris too, which was pretty underrated because some listeners (including millenial listeners) forget this power ballad. However, Sam Harris was popular in the 1980s with his power ballad, "Don't Look in My Eyes", originally from his self-titled album. "Don't Look in My Eyes" was popular in Indonesia after included on some love song-themed compilation album which was including some act from the United Kingdom, America, the European continent, and other popular countries. After this song, his popularity was down then his later record never reaching the same success as of his self-titled album. However, by the way, after I found Sam Harris when I make an album page on Genius, I finally like his music too!

Some real unearthed treasures this week: The Count, Shostakovich, Anak, Syracuse...I hadn't heard this live version of Highway Star either, pure hard rock heaven!

This is new and classic at the same time, but I particularly like this version:
