2020 Songs So Far: Nominations

Post by Schüttelbirne »

In the thread about the mid-year albums poll, I got the idea that a tournament of the songs from 2020 could be interesting and might lead to some interesting discoveries.

You get to nominate 64 songs which will then be voted upon to determine the winner.

The rules for nominations are pretty simple:
Private Message me a ranked list of 10 songs you want to see in the tournament.
The deadline for nominations is next Friday (21.08.) at midnight.

There's no special criteria for eligibility. The song must have been released in 2020, but other than that, you're free to nominate whatever you want. You may also vote for songs released in July or August.

Quite a few actually. One song even got five nominations (but I'm not telling which one yet).

This is like having Duke playing Kentucky in the first round.

Are we suppose to submit our picks for each match now? Or will there be a separate thread for that? And will there be a Spotify playlist?

I regret missing the deadline, but if I had Taylor Swift would probably have a lot of first round losses:

1. On the Floor, Perfume Genius
2. Kyoto, Phoebe Bridgers
3. betty, Taylor Swift
4. invisible string, Taylor Swift
5. cardigan, Taylor Swift
6. Gaslighter, The Chicks
7. Gospel For A New Century, Yves Tumor
8. The Steps, HAIM
9. I Want You To Love Me, Fiona Apple
10. I Remember Everything, John Prine

I can't believe On the Floor didn't make it!

There will be individual threads for the different rounds. Here's the first one: Link. It also includes a Spotify playlist.

Not this year it isn't! haha.

It's pretty funny that not only did Kentucky and Duke both miss the tournament for the first time in forever, but Kyoto lost this first-round matchup and then ended up being our song of the year by a pretty wide margin.
