Just an observation here, but the top albums and songs of 2017 seem to have aged VERY poorly in only three years. After getting silver in 2017, American Dream didn’t even get in the top 200 albums of the decade critics list, and HUMBLE fell really far too

I actually posted something similar on this back in January. Here's what I said:

"Also, it's quite funny how the 2017 albums are faring. Many of the top 10 albums of 2017 on AM are doing quite poor on the EOD lists. It's probably not due to an anti-recency bias (which is what's most likely dragging the 2019 albums down), as 2007 albums did great on the 2000s EOD lists. Instead, it's probably due to the fact that many of the artists in the top 10 had released even higher acclaimed albums this decade, and critics are just defaulting to the more acclaimed album.

Anyway, here's the top 10 albums of 2017 on AM, and their position on the EOD spreadsheet in parentheses. Some real interesting stuff here...

1. Kendrick Lamar- DAMN (#19)
2. LCD Soundsystem- American Dream (#776)
3. Lorde- Melodrama (#14)
4. St. Vincent- MASSEDUCTION (#273)
5. The War on Drugs- A Deeper Understanding (#596)
6. Vince Staples- Big Fish Theory (#177)
7. The National- Sleep Well Beast (#938)
8. SZA- Ctrl (#28)
9. King Krule- The Ooz (#119)
10. Slowdive- Slowdive (#154)

On the other hand...

11. Mount Eerie- A Crow Looked at Me (#45)
13. Arca- Arca (#63)
21. Tyler, The Creator- Flower Boy (#87)
17. Fever Ray- Plunge (#96)"

Being real though, 2017 MIGHT be the weakest year of music. It just doesn’t really have the monstrous highs that the other years had, even the most recent two. In my humble opinion, which is not everyone’s, there really wasn’t an NFR!, or a Seventeen, or a Joy, or any Janelle Monáe to make it all that good. Melodrama is probably the best example of a beloved album that has stood up well, but it’s just not as high up there as 2018/2019, let alone 2010-2016.

I think 2017 was the second weakest year of the 2010s (after 2019), but yeah, I agree it was a really weak year overall. Which it too bad, because every other year ending in 7 was a great year (1967, 1977, 1987, 1997, 2007). I'm not superstitious at all, but it was a cool little coincidence, and it's a shame 2017 ruined the streak.

Interesting, I thought 2017 was an exceptionally deep year. Yes, there wasn't an NFR!-level album, but it does have a Seventeen-level song (I like Green Light even more). There are tons of albums from 2017 in my top 500, although I agree most of them don't represent the peak for those artists, which hurt the year in EOD lists.

2017 doesn't have the towering highs of other years, but there is still plenty of good stuff, as we will see in the results...

Holden, I matched on 60.

Here's my other 40 (with shortened titles and typos). I used the 2017 albums poll as a big cheat sheet. *pretty much guaranteed
alt-J | An Awesome Wave
Anais Mitchell | Hadestown
Angel Olsen | My Woman
Arctic Monkeys | AM*
Big Thief | UFOF

Danny Brown | Atrocity Exhibition
Death Grips | The Money Store*
Destroyer | Kaputt*
Drake | Nothing Was the Same
Father John Misty | Pure Comedy
Fleet Foxes | HelpB*
Flying Lotus | Cosmogramma

James Blake and 7 might fall short but I expect the other 4 to make it, much more likely than some in your list (like Twin Fantasy unfortunately)
I agree with your "starred" ones though I'd think Brothers is more of a guarantee than El Camino.

I didn't include TLOP to my list for this poll but I've since added it to my AT list. I'm overly critical to the lesser Kanye albums cos I have them on replay so an album must not appear boring or average after multiple listens.

I used to be a 2017 naysayer myself, but it's definitely grown on me recently. Obviously there were better years in the decade for music (2010, 2015, 2016), but I don't think it was the worst either. American Dream and Melodrama have grown on me a lot since I first heard them when they were released, and there are also some albums lower down the year-end lists the I really enjoyed (Antisocialites in particular, but also Semper Femina).

Personally, I’d be disappointed to see The 1975 in the Top 100, and would be surprised to see ABIIOR over The Epic based on forum tastes. I’d love to see Age of Adz though. Also, ashamed I missed Black Messiah in my initial list! I love that album, and if I remade my list it’d probably be in the Top 20.

2017 was one of the biggest misses of the decade for the critics. Several of my top albums from that year (Kelly Lee Owens s/t, Jane Weaver's Modern Kosmology, Wolf Alice's Visions of a Life, Charli XCX's Pop 2, Kamasi Washington's Harmony of Difference EP) are unbelievably unranked/bubbling under on AMF, and some gems like Antisocialites, Semper Femina, Party, and The Navigator are buried on the list. I do agree it was one of the weaker years of the decade, but you'd think it was even worse if you just listen from the top of the AM list.

I think Burial's Kindred and Kate Tempest's Let Them Eat Chaos have a good chance at making the top 100, but perhaps I'm biased by a small number of high votes for each.

I've taken your list and prosecutorgodots' list, combined them, and then deleted any entries that had already appeared. That left me with 103 albums, so I took out the 3 albums I thought were the least likely to appear: The Bones of What You Believe, Nothing Was the Same, and RTJ3. This is the resulting list:

I feel like I’d be surprised to see Bad As Me in the Top 100, but none of the three albums you dropped feel like it would replace it.

It was actually our #2 album of 2011. I could see it. I know that was a while ago, but there's still a seriously strong Tom Waits contingent on the forum.

Just checked and it was 43 on the First Half of the Decade Poll, so maybe. Looking at the 2011 poll is kind of weird now, there was such an extreme blowout that wouldn’t happen with any current voting system. Add to that that 2011 is probably the weakest album year from the first half of the decade and I suppose we could be in for a few surprises.

My guess:

1. MBDTF
2. Blackstar
3. To Pimp a Butterfly
4. The Suburbs
5. Modern Vampires of the City
6. Channel Orange
7. High Violet
8. This is Happening
9. Norman Fuckin Rockwell!
10. Good Kid M.A.A.D City
11. Yeezus
12. Let England Shake
13. Carrie & Lowell
14. The Archandroid
15. Random Acess Memories
16. Lost in the Dream
17. Art Angels
18. A Moon Shaped Pool
19. Teen Dream
20. Black Messiah

I also think Blonde will be much lower for us then for the critics. Maybe in the bottom of the top 100.

Who will have highest placing #3 album? I think Angel Olsen, Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar, St. Vincent, The National, Beach House and Mitski are the contenders.

I’d say Kendrick or beach House. Probably Kendrick cause he’ll have two albums in the top twenty while Beach House is unlikely to get two in the top twenty.

Transgender dysphoria blues. No way. It was barely in the top 100 in 2014. (Though I am surprised to see Pure Heroine in the Top 100...)

Edit: Checked, TDB only has one vote in the Top 100 of anyone's list.

Is Kindred really going to make it?

For the query I posed, I'm going to say Kendrick, but the National could pull a surprise win.

Also, the question of the artist with the highest ranking third album has been resolved. It's Kendrick.

Excited that all these are still to come! Would not have expected some of these to place ahead of the likes of Blonde and Age of Adz

This is a good guess at the top 10. I could see The ArchAndroid and Carrie & Lowell beating out one or both of those last two, but it's hard to see the top 8 being different from what you have. I could see High Violet being as high as 4 because the love for The National has been real in these polls, but I think there will be a good amount of separation between the top 3 and the rest. I couldn't guess the order of the top 3 except I don't think Blackstar is likely to be #1 overall.

I can’t imagine Carrie & Lowell not being in the top 10. I’d say it’s more likely than MVOTC to be honest.

Looks like I correctly called that, though I flipped Let England Shake instead of Channel Orange for the album that would end up missing the top 10 (I'm happy with that result!).
