As someone who frequently sits toward the top of these lists in terms of being perpendicular to the results, I'd say embrace what makes your taste different, celebrate what you have in common with the group, and if you give a lot of the music here a shot, you're bound to find some songs you haven't heard that you love. It's worked for me for over 15 years now at this forum!
Thanks for these words Moonbeam, you have translated in a few words everything that makes the joy and pleasure to be still on this site. :music-listening: :music-rockon:

A variety in the tastes that allows you to browse through almost the whole alphabet of music and discover nuggets on nuggets in genres that are not necessarily yours.

I'm currently discovering Mitski for example, that I had never heard before... and her album "Be The Cowboy" is really very very good.

A few more lists:

First, songs with the highest points per voter (with min. 3 votes). So, identifying the songs where people who like the songs *really* like them - and potentially finding some that are great songs that fewer people have heard:

30 | Holter, Julia | Maxim‘s II | 46.9 | 3 | +277 (307)

Second, the highest ranked songs based on the voters with most different voting pattern - based on the 20 voters with the smallest proportion of their allocated points going to songs which made the AMF top 200 (the cut off being 27% voters points going to AMF top 200). As per the definition, these voters tend to have a wider variance of songs included:
Rank | Artist | Title | Points per voter | # Voters | (Poll rank)
1 | Del Rey, Lana | Video Games | 477.3 | +0 (1)
2 | Bowie, David | Lazarus | 431.3 | +6 (8)

Then, the opposite, the ranking based only on voters whose voting matched most similarly to the overall list (the cut off here being a minimum of 39% allocated points going to songs in AMF top 200). Obviously, this list is going to look much more similar to the actual list, but there are still a few notable differences:
1 | M83 | Midnight City | 930.4 | +6 (7)
2 | West, Kanye | Runaway (ft. Pusha T) | 930 | +1 (3)

Since we are in alternate lists mode, does anyone have a list of the 25 or even 50 highest rank songs on critic's EOD list that did not make our top 461? I don't have time to search it out myself.

Sorry if I'm late (I needed to make a journey to the past before writing) but I wanted to congratulate Schüttelbirne for the fabulous rollout. Thank you very much for all the effort you put on this. I can't complain about the results. 9 songs of the Top 10 were on my list, 5 of them on my Top 50. And my #1 ended at #8, not bad!

I like the way every new rollout integrates the innovations of the previous rollouts. As one of the oldest members of the forum I've witnessed the evolution of the rollouts.
- The rollouts of our first polls (15 years ago!) featured only the names of artists and albums or songs (these first polls were conducted by Jacek and sonofsamiam).
- It was Henrik himself who raised a lot the bar with his presentation for the first 1990s poll in 2007, including the cover art of singles and albums, use of bolded letters and different sizes and some items that ended being a capital part of the future rollouts like score, position on previous polls, position on the main AM list, personal comments and, of course, the biggest fans! The inclusion of our personal comments on songs or albums is something that lasted for many years but disappeared some years ago (sadly having someone like Rob on board).
- Anthony included the number of voters on the second albums poll (2007).
- Jackson raised the bar a lot again including lyrics quotes (something that today is a fix feature) and pictures of the artists on his rollout for our third songs poll in 2010.
- I included quotes from reviews on the Internet, information about songwriting and recording and Youtube links on our first 1900-1949 poll in 2010-2011.
- DocBrown included the "replay with quote" feature (that made it more visually attractive) on our album poll of 2014
- And finally Moonbeam who introduced the quotes for biggest fans and haters on the third 1980s poll.
- Of course I know there are many more innovations I don't have time right now to check properly (I'll try to do it during my holidays). Sorry if I forgot someone. For instance I'm not sure about who introduced first the final correlation stats (probably Henrik or Moonbeam) or the Spotify playlists but surely these are outstanding features right now.

One last comment (and advice). Schüttelbirne, I see you selected the pictures from a variety of sources (by the way, excellent selection of pictures). Given the volatility of the visual contents on the Internet maybe in some months or years these images will disappear. Probably you could use some of the free storage pages on the Internet to prevent that. But this not always works, I used to keep my images for the forum in Photobucket.com but these images were lost anyway. Now I use imgbox.com

I like less than 15 songs in the top 200 and definitely "Video Games" didn't deserve to be the winner,It didn't even deserved to be in the top 10.I can assure you that i won't listen to so many of these artists who had been successful in this decade according to critics or these results in my life again!

(Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days(The 90s preferably))
That's a bit harsh. 11 of your 50 songs made the top 200, a success rate of 22%. That's not too bad, actually: 17 voters had lower success rates than that.

Wezzo: 3%
Zombeels: 4.5%
Akhenaten: 8.5%
Moonbeam: 9%
Romain: 10%
Krurze: 10.45%
bonnielaurel: 11%
mileswide: 11%
Myself: 11%
CupOfDreams: 13%
rumpdoll: 14%
Brad: 17%
Nassim: 19%
phil: 20.6%
Fred: 21%
Henry: 21.5%
PlasticRam: 21.5%

I am actually kinda happy that only 11 songs from my list made the top 200,I think i said before that it had been hard for me to make a list with 50 songs,So i put some songs that i used to like(Get Lucky,Midnight City,...).I believe that my success rate will increase in polls about songs from 1960s to 2000s.I think i was overreacting a little bit but i am still unhappy with the results.

And thank you for your great comment in the end,This site has helped me so much about music,I have added hundreds of songs to my playlist since discovering this amazing site. One of the reason why i love this site is that the members don't talk about popular songs,They talk about great songs and this means we are different and i like to be different from my classmates who think rap is the greatest genre ever and listen to those shits.

Thanks for all your kind words and the statistics you provided.
I hope I have corrected all the mistakes (Moonbeam is probably not Robyn, though we can't be sure).

Here's the list Rob asked for (I've been wanting to provide this list myself before he asked, actually). The biggest surprise is obviously that there's a Kanye West track not voted for in our list.

49 | 199 | Wanda | Bologna | 769
50 | 201 | Young M.A. | Ooouuu | Unranked

I haven't written a lot about the songs themselves, so here's a few loose thoughts:

My personal #1 got to #210 thanks to rumpdoll's vote, which is great. "Dmd Kiu Lidt" is easily one of my favorite songs ever, but I am perfectly aware that the language barrier is prohibiting most others of enjoying it the way I do.
The highest ranking songs not in the English language and not an instrumental (the Top 10, maybe I missed something, not sure):

131 | Rosalía | Malamente (Cap. 1: Augurio)
210 | Ja, Panik | Dmd Kiu Lidt
300 | Lafourcade, Natalia | Tú Sí Sabes Quererme
309 | Lafourcade, Natalia | Hasta la raíz
353 | Calle 13 | Latinoamerica
364 | Gou, Peggy | It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)
372 | Wilson, Jenny | Säg vod som hände
390 | Mena, Javiera | Luz de piedra de luna
427 | B, Cardi ft. Bad Bunny & J. Balvin | I Like It
429 | Ondatrópica | Tiene Sabor Tiene Sazon

I hope Bon Iver does better in the albums poll than here, but I am not enthusiastic they will.

I'm glad my least favorite song in the list didn't make #1. "Get Lucky" is one of the most annoying songs I've ever heard ("Blurred Lines" and "Happy" aren't much better). There's no other songs in the Top 100 I actively dislike, even if I don't understand what makes "Oblivion" a favorite to so many.

Finally, running this poll was a lot of fun. I would really like to do something like this again someday (if you'll have me). Preparing and rolling out the results was the part I preferred, so if anybody wants to do a poll, but is not really interested in doing the rollout, I could be of assistance.

Thanks, Schüttelbirne! From those 50 critic's favorite I would actually say the top pick has the most surprising absence on our list, as Radiohead is a big forum favorite artist. Having said that, I do agree with "our" choice of including Burn the Witch and Daydreaming over True Love Waits.
Personally, I only voted for two songs of these 50: Motion Sickness and Shutdown.

One other song I just thought of that I thought would rank quite well, but is completely absent on our list is Ship to Wreck by Florence + the Machine. Besides being a hit song it also has appeared in seemingly every AM poll it is eligible for, so I guess everyone is familiar with it. It always seemed to be much loved here, even if not by me, so I thought it was a certainty.

Beautiful poll and a great presentation
Maybe later I will choose some songs in the last places among the images that I find most attractive.
"Video Games" breaks a pattern in N. 1 and that's great.

Surprised that "Full of Fire" was left out of the Top 200 (it's a forum signature  ), and more surprised by the colossal failure of "Ode to Victory"
And glad that "Sister" has a Top 200

I didn't like the Top 5 so much, but having the songs I like in the Top 10 is already great.

Kendrick has 14 songs on the main list. I think it says 12 on one of the extra stats, but that's just a small error.

On the main list I also counted features (for Lamar that would be "Freedom" and "Never Catch Me"); for the additional stats I only counted the primary artist.

Damn, 6 out of 200? Not sure whether to take this as an indictment of my taste or not :)

Shout out to antonius who also voted for England by The National at #1, can't believe two of us had it in first place!

On the main list I also counted features (for Lamar that would be "Freedom" and "Never Catch Me"); for the additional stats I only counted the primary artist.
Oh I see.

Technically Chance the Rapper is on the list: his side project Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment’s song “Sunday Candy” made the cut.

Figures my least favorite of the big contenders won. Guess it shows how out of touch I've fallen with the forum over the years.

I don't think I would have any of the Top 10 high on my list, aside from #2, but overall, was content seeing how the down-ballot played out. Certainly one of the most unpredictable polls we've had.

A bit surprised Laura Marling and UMO missed out, given how acclaimed they've been on this forum and by the critics.

Rob wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2020 8:11 pm I was all set with my least favorite songs of the top 10 (Midnight City and Runaway) taking the spot, so seeing my #3, Video Games, winning was a very nice surprise I must say. Obviously I support this victory.

This was an amazing roll-out, Schüttelbirne! I love the attention to detail.

I can also not help but love the variety of reactions. For example, that there are at least two reactions here that are surprised that Midnight City doesn't appeal to everybody, while me on the other hand have a hard time to hearing anything great in it. And so it goed, and so it goes.

Laura Marling (0) (Rob)
Ah yes, of course I'm the biggest fan of the artist with the most songs mentioned without getting a single one in.
In Marling's case I kind of expected this to happen as there is no consensus favorite for her (which I guess is reflected here). The other person I'm really missing here is Phoebe Bridgers. She didn't have the biggest output, but I thought the critic support for Motion Sickness, forum support for Dylan Thomas (from Better Oblivion Community Center) or, heck, my very high ranking of Funeral, might work in her favor. There are a couple of other songs I supported that I was convinced would make the cut, but I guess such things are neither here not there. Probably everybody has a few of these.
For what it's worth, I was the only voter for I Speak Because I Can and Rambling Man. I also voted for Nothing, Not Nearly, and Wild Fire is my favorite song in her catalog. I'm a little surprised I omitted Gurdjieff's Daughter too. I expect her to do much better in the poll you're about to host.

For Phoebe, I had only heard Motion Sickness before listening to her new album, and what an album! I'm now going to explore more of her earlier work. I just listened to Funeral, and it's quite good.

And yes, Ship to Wreck is a bizarre case. I would have originally expected this, but then it did amazingly well in Biggest Fan. Weird that it didn't carry over at all. The same happens frequently with the weekly chart and EOY polls.

Here's the list Rob asked for (I've been wanting to provide this list myself before he asked, actually). The biggest surprise is obviously that there's a Kanye West track not voted for in our list.

Rank | Critics' Rank | Artist | Title | AMF Rank

26 | 163 | Miguel | Adorn | 645
27 | 166 | FKA twigs | Water Me | 4418

Great rollout! Not surprised my list wasn't quite aligned with the majority. Not crazy about some of the most popular Pop Artists of the past decade. Maybe I should revisit, or maybe I'm just getting old.

Makes me sad to see "Dancing on My Own" and "Oblivion" catching some grief here. They are by far my favorites among the top 11!

Personally, while Dancing on My Own doesn’t quite feel like the song of the decade, it’s place in the top ten feels earned by me. Oblivion continues to blow my mind every time I hear it, would’ve been very happy with that as the song of the year, but I do think that Video Games is the better choice (and all three of these songs are better than Runaway, which continues to fail to live up to the hype for me and honestly feels almost like a weak link in MBDTF)

Thanks Schüttelbirne for that great roll out !

I think that's a great list, indeed better than most critics lists. Most of the songs included are well deserving. There is maybe one song I'd give less than a 5 out of 10 in the top 200, and even the song I like the least in the top 100, Fuck You, is a solid 5 at least.
I listened to the playlist from the lowest ranked to #258 and there are about 6 songs I actually think are bad (Paradise, Blurred Lines, Bound 2, The Edge of Glory, the 2 MGMT tracks and maybe that Linkin Park track though I barely remember it already).
My issues would be more with what is not included, and in particular the lack of non Kanye or Kendrick rap, especially in the top 100 : Norf Norf as one of the highest AM ranked song not included in there is a big symbol of that, as is the fact that Vince Staples and Danny Brown have 0 songs each.
Though I would say I am also happy with some songs that didn't get included, like Sorry, I Don't Like and Despacito.

Really surprised by the lack of Laura Marling too, though maybe that vote splitting is not that surprising as her albums are usually very cohesive with few stand out tracks. Still, I thought Nothing Not Nearly would easily get in. She'll probably do much better on the album side though.

Usually people I know and work with dislike my music (I live in small town Wisconsin, if people don’t listen to exclusively modern country they listen to modern rap), with a couple exceptions (one that comes to mine is Fourth of July) but I played the Top 100 of this at work and someone liked Monster and I’ve Seen Footage so much that she asked me for them, and it’s a really fun experience hearing someone else play music they got from you.

Surprised at the winner, I find that song borderline unlistenable. Rest of the top of the list is solid though. Get Lucky might be the most addictive song ever.

I like less than 15 songs in the top 200 and definitely "Video Games" didn't deserve to be the winner,It didn't even deserved to be in the top 10.I can assure you that i won't listen to so many of these artists who had been successful in this decade according to critics or these results in my life again!

(Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days(The 90s preferably))
That's a bit harsh. 11 of your 50 songs made the top 200, a success rate of 22%. That's not too bad, actually: 17 voters had lower success rates than that.

Wezzo: 3%
Zombeels: 4.5%
Akhenaten: 8.5%
Moonbeam: 9%
Romain: 10%
Krurze: 10.45%
bonnielaurel: 11%
mileswide: 11%
Myself: 11%
CupOfDreams: 13%
rumpdoll: 14%
Brad: 17%
Nassim: 19%
phil: 20.6%
Fred: 21%
Henry: 21.5%
PlasticRam: 21.5%

As someone who frequently sits toward the top of these lists in terms of being perpendicular to the results, I'd say embrace what makes your taste different, celebrate what you have in common with the group, and if you give a lot of the music here a shot, you're bound to find some songs you haven't heard that you love. It's worked for me for over 15 years now at this forum!
Don’t think you’re too alone; since I didn’t vote, you’re doing mine and God’s work nominating so many LCD Soundsystem songs!

In the correlations shown later, Video Games was only #11 using the lists most similar to the overall list, while it was #1 when the contrary was done. So maybe it won because it's a song which appeals to people with the most specific kinds of tastes. No matter how these tastes differ from each other, almost all of these people love the song.

No, that would be "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." ;)

Also, when do the album results roll out?

Really late response, but thanks very much for all the hard work, attention to detail, and generosity of spirit you have put into this, Schüttelbirne. As others have mentioned already, I like the attention given to songs beyond the top 200 – it certainly made me want to explore songs I didn’t know.

I hope you’ve had a nice rest after this marathon exercise. :)
