What five are you thinking of? I can think of four... (if you don’t want to post here for spoilers we can continue in the prediction thread)

Yup this makes sense, I remember it being at least one persons #1 of the decade. Though sad my favorite from that album won’t be maki g it... Hell of a Life is one of the few songs that I find legitimately very funny.

Does that mean Devil in a New Dress didn't make the cut at all? I'm surprised, that's my favorite track on the album. I think Good Kid m.a.a.d city will have a bunch of songs too, but I haven't been counting.

Is anyone doing a Spotify playlist of this list?

I'm probably forgetting some (maybe even some that already have 3) but here I go :

Thanks! Missed it as I only checked the first post.

Loud City Song is probably the most unique album so far that has managed to place 3 tracks (including two different versions of essentially the same song), but it won't have any more.

I guess I have only 5 songs left in my list that will make the Top 200 anyway, including one by the next POTUS

A lot of really great expected songs in that bucket. I wasn't sure whether A Piece of the Sky, Come Down to Us, and Do the Astral Plane would place at this point, so it was cool to see those. In the "too low!!!" area are Everything is Embarrassing, You Want it Darker, and Fists of Fury.

It's interesting to see multiple songs that were unranked in their original EOY polls place really well here, like Hacker and, on the other end of the spectrum, Little Talks.

That's more likely to be honest :D Sad really that I'm focusing on someone's identity with all this excitement of the rollout, so I'll cheer the fact one of my top 20s has made it this far with the promise of possibly 3 more to come Echoing Jackson in the other thread in crossing my fingers for Tunnel Vision

I’m bringing this up because of how beautiful of a song it is, but when I was marching in the George Floyd protests in Washington D.C. a while back, “Freedom” came on at the end of the rally I attended. I’m thinking about it now because looking back on it, it was the perfect song for the moment. I’m glad that this poll’s voters love this song as much as I do :)

Freedom really should be more popular/acclaimed than Formation. I've always been baffled by Formation's appeal.

Same. I just relistened to Lemonade and found the whole thing held up really well... and then "Formation" comes on and the end and it's just so incredibly limp compared to everything prior.

A LOT of songs I expected to hit too 100 here:
Round and Round, HUMBLE, Shut Up Kiss Me, Digital Witness, Love It If We Made It. Sad these couldn’t place any higher, but that just means we’re in for some surprises in the Top 100!

Also, (not so surprisingly, I might add) HUMBLE. becomes our first EOY #1 to be eliminated.

I thought the same thing. Andromeda as well.

On the flipside, we do have three songs appear in that last batch that the critics mysteriously, yet totally ignored: My Silver Lining, Mystery of Love, Tunnel Vision and Why We Build the Wall. All three great, great songs; all unranked on the critics list. I thought Mystery of Love initially didn't appear on Year-End lists because it was released very late in the year, but I thought it would eventually score at the end of the decade. I was horribly wrong. And isn't My Silver Lining well-known enough by now to make a few critics list? Apparently not. Glad to see them here. I noticed this before, but in this decade me and the critics were on another plain of existence when it comes to songs.

And yes, I agree that Hot Knife if very original and I'm happy to see it above Every Single Night here (which is a great song too!). And whaddaya know, the critics ignored Hot Knife too.

That section was a weird mix of awesome AMF specials that I haven't seen this high on any other consensus list (Says, Ashtray Wasp, Why We Build the Wall, Tunnel Vision, Hot Knife), pop songs that way outperformed expectations, songs that fell significantly but perhaps predictably from the year in which they came out (Round and Round, HUMBLE, and This is America), and another heavy dose of indie rock.

I am surprised "thank u, next" placed higher than "no tears left to cry" and "Backseat Freestyle" placed higher than "Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst" and "Money Trees" (which I guess won't place at all?) - I'd like to hear from voters on those ones.

I tried to limit my list to only one song per project so that was a tough call when picking a favorite from GKMC, for me Backseat Freestyle is just such a perfect distillation of Kendrick’s ear-grabbing vocal deliveries and iconic lines.

Also that trunk-knocking beat still kicks ass after 8 years.

I was also surprised. I'm really enamored by the production on "thank u, next" - it sounds really unique and like a world all to itself. I like the message of acceptance and moving on (as well as self-love) that is touched on in the song, which can really be applied to any relationship (familial, fraternal, occupational, societal), not just a romantic one. In my view, it takes serious balls to not go the easy route of wallowing in pain and anger, and instead say, "This bad experience taught me something, and I will take that lesson into the future, and will hope for more learning experiences to grow as a person." More so than that, Ariana thanks them for the experience - this is the mind-blowing part. I don't have balls to do that, and I actually have them. How can you thank someone for giving you a bad time? But somehow Ariana finds the graciousness and wisdom to do so, and that is incredibly impressive, and admirable. You can easily find and talk to people fifty years older than Ariana that don't have that level of maturity. This song kinda popped up when I was facing a serious need to metamorphose as a human being, so it was a perfect soundtrack for that. As an additional plus, maturity in general is pretty rare for mainstream pop.

Also, the song is a centerpiece in its album, adding more layers, akin to "Lazarus" or "Blackstar" on Blackstar, which couldn't be heard when the songs were just singles.

On the other hand, I don't see what's really that special about "no tears left to cry." It is certainly decent, but don't see how it could be raised into an EOD discussion. (though I certainly see how the song is very accessible and catchy)

Tomorrow I'll do 50-12 and the rest on Monday.

About two of the live versions:

I love the screams in the "Kill v. Maim" version and I wish the original was more like that.

The live version of "Cellophane" is far better than the studio version.

For les Daft Punk there is no longer any doubt in my mind that "Giorgio by Moroder" is far better than "Get Lucky" underworked and, I find, too repetitive. I would have preferred that Giorgio finished in front of the other one.

Otherwise, I feel like I've spent my life in another world, I don't know half of the songs I've heard here. And, as with the critics' reviews, apart from a few songs, I don't find myself at all in this ranking.

I really feel that there is more and more of a dichotomy between countries and that this ranking is very very americano centered. It's not a criticism, just a feeling that the music, oddly enough, is less and less evenly shared.

"Call Me Maybe" that high? I don't think it's a bad song or anything, but THAT high?
