How don't you know the song you voted for?
I sent in a list of 200 songs, I don't remember all 200 off the top of my head except the ones I know I voted for highly. Apparently, this wasn't one of them, so my bad. If I'd remembered to revisit my list, I'd totally include it. It's a beautiful song.

Arsalan wrote: Sun Jul 05, 2020 1:43 pm I thought i was the only one who voted for "Letters from the Sky".Glad to see it in the top 400,Such a fantastic song,This song has literally every thing that a critically acclaimed song needs to have and it makes me sick that this song is not even on a one critic list.It was definitely in my top 5 but i put it at the top of my list because i wanted it to appear,It seems this song and this band won't get a recognition that they deserve neither from critics nor people.
I was the second vote. And it was also one of my votes for 2010-2014. In fact, I also picked "Fire Escape" and "Holy Dove".

I'm more surprised someone else picked "Plans".

Thankfully get the 2 votes. I was sweating because maybe it got the wrong numbers. But at the end it was ok

:music-listening:

Very good song, indeed.

The live version of "Real Death" may actually be better than the studio version, but maybe it's just me being shocked about how he can perform this live.

Mac DeMarco is doing well, at least in comparison to past EOY polls.

Sapokanikan was one of my top 10 songs I found hard to predict whether it would appear at all, so I'm happy to see it here.

Real Death, though, is making me want to say stupid things like: "Only #308? This is very obviously a masterpiece and not voting for it shouldn't even be an option." Or something along those lines.

We better not tell Henrik it did presumably worse than Pumped Up Kicks.

I'd like to take at least partial responsibility for bringing "Edge of Town" to people's attention through The Number Ones, and I'm very pleased it made the cut.

Very happy to see ";john" in there! It seems iamamiwhoami didn't end up with much critical acclaim, which is a bit surprising. I'm hoping at least "sever" can place as well.

Space Song and Real Death are the two biggest surprises so far. Would've expected T200 for both. Immaterial too, given it placed well in a recent year EOY poll.

It's great to see the massively great "We Drift Like Worried Fire" get a placement - I thought I was mostly on my own in my love for that one.

That’s what I meant. I confused it with a recurring feature on Stereogum somehow.

What a great presentation! Thanks Schüttelbirne,I know there are a lot of things to do for this kind of presentation,I was wondering if you could add genre to the songs in the top 100 for example.I agree with Gillingham that ranked songs get more attention this way.

So excited for the rest of the list.

I don't really see the sense in including genres.
First of all, I wouldn't know how to do it. Should I list only primary genres (Rock, Pop, Jazz, Folk) or should I list the very specific genre (Neoclassical Darkwave, Experimental Big Band, Psychedelic Avant-Garde Symphonic Metal, ...). Personally I only use the primary genres, but listing those seems redundant, because the Top 100 mostly consists of songs that are pretty well known (that's not really a spoiler).
Also, the presentation is already finished (and it has been finished for the past few days). Going through every track and looking for the genre, which is not always obvious, is just something I don't really have the time or inspiration to do, sorry.

The odds of two songs getting exactly one #8 vote and one #9 vote has got to be pretty slim, right? Excited to see a lot of forum favorites placing in this range.

I have a feeling that the artists who have debuted before 2010 are doing better than the newer ones, but it's just a feeling.

Perhaps because Shark Smile is #1 on Biggest Fan I thought it would place much higher than it does.

I like the current tempo of 50 songs a day, by the way. Seems to have the right balance between keeping the tempo up, without rushing things.

Nassim (#9)
Henry (#14)
Of all the people, I wouldn't have imagined I'd team up with Henry for a 2 vote songs, as our taste rarely seem to intersect, but I'm glad we did !

Are Wasted Days (shout out to rumdpoll :character-beavisbutthead: ) and If It's Alive, I Will the highest ranked songs with 2 votes ? We haven't yet reached the 200 points threshold so I guess another one could still show up.

Don't know who else voted for Especially Me, but thanks to you too !
Also glad to be in good company among the Maze voters !

I am disappointed that Baby Birch does worse than with the critics, it seems to be the kind of song that does well here in AM.

I'd have expected Pretty Pimpin higher too, I'm usually not a big Kurt Vile fan but that song is hard to resist. Such a simple pleasure that I expected it to appear in more ballots.

On the other hand, I'm glad the forum remembered Jessie Ware (whose 2020 albums is pretty great).

Only 1 song from my top 10 still has a change to appear, so here's hoping for a top 50 at least for rEALiTi !

You are right.
It's Parquet Court's "Uncast Shadow of a Southern Myth", which I mistakenly included among the songs having only one number 1 vote. I made sure to adjust the numbering so I wouldn't forget to include it, but of course I did forget.
Thanks!

Apologies for not participating in either the song or album poll... there's just no feasible way for me to produce such a list at the time, unless I were to completely half-ass it. But I've seen quite a few songs thus far that would definitely have gotten a big boost had I submitted something..."Leave a Trace", "California", "Only One", "Disparate Youth", "Q.U.E.E.N.", "Prince Johnny", "O.N.E."... maybe even some more that didn't rank this time around. Regardless, I'm still incredibly happy with how the list is shaping up so far. Schüttelbirne, you really went above and beyond with this! Great job!

If the song I'm thinking of is the same as the song you are referring to, it's probably the highest ranking songs with 3 votes. Although I do think it might have a couple of more votes.

Remember what I said about rumpdoll getting in a lot of songs with just two votes?

[But, in these occupied zones, in which we eke out our life,
do the junkies become partisans and the suicidals anarchists?
Can‘t you see the foreign powers,
That sit enthroned in your body?
What is it with you, with your self, isn‘t it tearing apart?
But that‘s good, because you‘re nothing, but a thousand of versions.
You are how, when and where, in what mood, in what scenery.]

I am really enjoying this part of the list (especially the 250-300 section) that consists more of idiosyncratic favorites of 3-5 voters rather than the consensus favorites. This is a really interesting and varied group of songs. Glad I could help elevate songs like "Queen of Hearts" and "Maze" on the list!

I wouldn't say I regret not submitting a list (since I'm trying to put my focus on the all-time albums poll above all else) but this one definitely hurt me too.

Just listened to "Uncast Shadow of a Southern Myth" for the first time and wow! What a track. Excited to check out all the other new discoveries in this range of the list.

Also, with this new block, Are We There places three songs in the top 500. Curious what other albums will place at least three tracks, and going to guess in advance that MBDTF will have the most overall.

Not a bad guess, I'm wondering if an album with more tracks might have a shot at taking the crown though. MBDTF has 13 tracks, whereas an album like The Suburbs has 16. The might not be enough of a difference to matter, but it might for some other contenders.

What's amazing is that not a single song from MBDTF has shown up so far. Which means that we're about to get at least 5 songs off the album in the top 200.
