Survivor Game #3: Top 100 Artists of All-Time!

Post by Holden »

The rules:
Each time you vote, you remove your least favorite artist remaining from the AM Top 100.
In your post, show which artist you have removed with a strike-through, or just emphasize it in someway, and include the remaining songs beneath.
Each person can do one vote per day.

I have really never enjoyed his music to be honest, it just never really struck a chord with me, and everyone else on the list I either really do think is very good or I don’t have enough experience with them to eliminate them. Sorry if I eliminated one of your favorites! I was pretty sad to see R.E.M. go myself.

A recent one - I just kept coming back to Hounds of Love after listening to it for the 1985 poll. My reaction was more surprise though at such a clear forum favourite going so early.

I'm sad to see Neil Young go. I wouldn't call him a personal favorite, but he is one of the most consistent artists that I've ever heard. From what I've heard at least, while he's not the best ever, he just churned out really good album after really good album. I'm listening to "Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere" right now, and it's another winner, just a super solid piece of music.

Oh, I didn't realise. Sorry all Kate fans - Just after I made my choice, LoveulongTim put up a post saying her stuff was some of his favourite music! I never really got into her stuff and believe me I tried. For me, I put her in the same category as Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits etc. A lot of love and acclaim for them by critics etc. but I just don't get it. And like I said, I've tried many times and listened to recommend albums and songs but just don't feel it. My loss I guess.

I was sad to see AC/DC go but was not surprised. They are a favourite band of mine but seem to be a. It polarising on this forum. I guess they are a Marmite (or Vegemite for the Aussies) band - you either like 'me or you don't.

I know, right? They should be higher!

Regardless of my personal opinion on their music, having the most critically acclaimed album since OK Computer counts for a lot.

That was a tough stretch there. Arcade Fire and The Beatles out back to back.

Massive Attack! No! I was hoping they'd be able to sneak under the radar!

In case you were curious from the last thread, Unfinished Sympathy is the other song besides Strange Fruit that is not in my top 10,000.

To be honest, while I do love Unfinished Sympathy, it is really not their best song in my opinion, nor even the best song on Blue Lines.

I agree - never really been that keen on Unfinished Sympathy. Their best album is definitely Mezzanine - even the outtakes etc. were awesome. As for Blue Lines, my favourite tracks are:

Safe From Harm
5 Man Army
Daydreaming

(in that order).

I also love the following tracks from Protection:

Protection
Karmacoma
Eurochild

(also in that order).

I thought about being mean as revenge for Tom and the National... however, the Band are still here.
