Top 200 Songs of the Decade Tournament: Round 1, Part 4

Post by Holden »

Hello! As I'm sure many of you know, recently, the top 200 songs of the Decade based on Critics' List have been shown over in the respective thread, so I thought it would be fun to make a game out of it! So here it is:
Every week, I'll post a new poll with twenty songs, randomly selected from the list of 200. You can pick up to your ten FAVORITE of these songs. Once all 200 songs have been used, then round two begins, with only the top 100 songs remaining. However, I won't simply be using the ten highest songs in each round, instead I will be basing it on the percentage of votes that they carry in the round, and ranking those. I hope this makes sense, and if you'd like me to explain I can, but all you have to do is pick your ten favorite of the twenty songs!
Here are this week's songs!
Rank Among 200 Songs | Artist | Song (Year)
20 | Carly Rae Jepsen | Run Away With Me (2015)

Yeah, I only made three picks. Gotta say the music from late 2010's is generally not my favourite...

This is a pretty weak week, in comparison to some of the others

That's a horrible list. Could only find 1 song I can tolerate.

I voted for these (all in my T500 for the decade):

20 | Carly Rae Jepsen | Run Away With Me (2015)
59 | Katy Perry | Teenage Dream (2010)
118 | Kendrick Lamar | HUMBLE. (2017)
157 | Run the Jewels feat. Zack de la Rocha | Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck) (2014)
182 | Purity Ring | Fineshrine (2012)
186 | David Bowie | I Can't Give Everything Away (2016)

"Close Your Eyes" is my favorite of the week; that has been a major rediscovery over the last few months as I finally agree with the consensus that it's the best RtJ song. I'm surprised I was the only vote so far for synth-pop highlight "Fineshrine."

A few others were bubbling under my T500:
68 | Phoebe Bridgers | Motion Sickness (2017)
92 | Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper | Shallow (2018)
93 | Fiona Apple | Every Single Night (2012)
105 | Kacey Musgraves | Slow Burn (2018)
196 | James Blake | Limit to Your Love (2010)

I think this group is very solid. The Kendrick songs are classics of course, but “Run Away With Me” and “XO TOUR Llif3” would definitely be in the top twenty of my EOD songs list if I made one.
