Georges Brassens - Marinette: 5
It has a nice bounce to it, but there is something about chansons that puts me off. Something about the singing style.

The Alarm - Sixty Eight Guns: 7
For an eighties synth pop song this seems rather unusual, with it's various shifts and segments. It comes close to being both a great pop piece and an epic mood song, but it has dated just a little too much to really reach extraordinary heights. It comes close though and perhaps it might grow on me.

460. The Velvet Underground – Lisa Says
Year: 1974/ 1985*
Album: 1969: Velvet Underground Live with Lou Reed/ VU*
Biggest Fan: Brad (#143)
*This is a rare case were a live version was released much earlier than the studio cut, as this track already appeared on the 1969 live record, while the studio version appeared on the outtakes album VU. I went for the studio cut for the playlist. If Brad disagrees, please let me know.

453. Animotion - Obsession: 6 - not a bad 80s synth pop song for once !
454. M83 - Run Into Flowers - 8
455. Keiichi Suzuki & Hirokazu Tanaka - Inakunarinasai (A.k.a. Pokey Means Business): 7 - Yeah, the change @ 0:53 is epic :)
456. World Party - Take It Up: 7
457. Gorillaz – Rhinestone Eyes: 7
458. Georges Brassens - Marinette: 5
459. The Alarm – Sixty Eight Guns: 6 - I don't see a synth pop act here, more a punk band who dabbles into mainstream. The second part of the song is odd.
460. The Velvet Underground – Lisa Says - 6 - not the best song from the classic album.

Disagree with Spiritualized. Alright, perhaps it's not the best song on the album, but one of the best among many great ones.

I'm sorry, Wisnu, I don't want to do this, but at the moment I can not keep counting your votes, since I have no reason to believe you vote according to the rules of the game, even if these rules aren't all that strict. I don't understand your votes and your comments even less. This pains me, but this just isn't working.

460. The Velvet Underground – Lisa Says 9.75 (now #190 on my all-time list).
Tempted to round this up to help offset the predictably low "I'm anti-VU!" scores but hey someone's gotta keep it real.
Yes, Rob - this is the version I adhere to. A beautiful song. Chuck Berry was once almost misheard to say this was the greatest song ever written!

The second appearance of The Human League here. The song is only on Spotify in remixed and live versions, so I added a YouTube link to the original:

I really like this track.

451. Talking Heads – I Zimbra: 9
452. Loreen - Euphoria: 2

Not a fan of this type of pop at all. I think it's those cho-o-o-o-ruses.

453. Animotion - Obsession: 7
Rob wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2020 2:41 pm Animotion - Obsession: 7

Some good eighties synthpop. On the verge of being tacky, but unexpectedly atmospheric.
Totally agree but I think it's tacky but in a good way if that makes sense :)

454. M83 - Run Into Flowers - 5
455. Keiichi Suzuki & Hirokazu Tanaka - Inakunarinasai (A.k.a. Pokey Means Business): 2.5

457. Gorillaz – Rhinestone Eyes: 9

Weird thought: that background female (?) choir going "That electri-ic-ic-ic" may be my favorite Gorillaz thing ever. There is something cool about this whole song in general.
Like Rob, I also love the chorus on this one. One of my favourite Gorillaz songs and one of all-time top tracks of the 2010's.

458. Georges Brassens - Marinette: 2
459. The Alarm – Sixty Eight Guns: 7.5
460. Velvet Underground - Lisa Says 9

Top Velvet's track! Should have been on a proper album. I guess it was too poppy for experimental/noise that was White Heat/White Light.

461. The Hotelier – Your Deep Rest - 5

The screaming of every last word in each line kinda kills me a bit...

462. The Human League - Marianne: 5

Gotta say that M83 are one of a handful of bands that I actually prefer their new stuff to their old

463. Peter Brötzmann – Machine Gun 2/10.
I sense that this will be quite polarising. I really don't get this. One could easily (I think) put a few 7 years old with 3 saxophones, a drum kit and a piano and let them loose. The result would amount to the same pile of rubbish (sorry sonofsamiam)

1 point for sheer balls though.

Outside of Don't You Want Me this band never really does anything to me. This one has a nice hook, but I'm not sure if I'll really remember it long after today.

Peter Brötzmann - Machine Gun: 7
Well, it's certainly an acquired taste. When it started today I was really annoyed that I was going to have to listen to this noise three times today: that's almost an hour combined. I could listen to an album in that time. However, it proved a blessing in disguise as I spread out the three listens over the day. The first time I wondered if it was something I could like in a particular mood. The second time I was particularly not in the mood. The third time, though: yes, I was. It finally clicked. Not the whole thing, but the song beneath the onslaught of whatever is happening here was revealed and I could get into it. Not something I will probably feel the need to listen to most of the time, but I'm glad it exists.
Something to note: knowing that this was made in 1968 makes Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music seem far less radical.
Also noteworthy: this song and it's album do very well on Rate Your Music. It's far less divisive there.

Only because it rarely rated by people who are not already familiar with it. I submit that if you got most people to rate this thing it would be ones and twos all over the place. Even here where we are all much more open minded than normal listeners it already has a few ones and twos.

Oh, I don't doubt that it would score much, much lower with a 'regular' audience, but still a placement around #1000 of all time seems very high for something this extreme. Open-mindedness only gets you so far. Besides, although Machine Gun is not a mainstream household name by any stretch of the imagination, it has appeared on enough lists and in reference books to be something the music connoisseur could know about it.

Certainly Funkadelic had no other point than proving that they were the coolest band ever? They come mightily close here, because this song has it all: it rocks, it grooves and oozes atmosphere. Too bad it peters out at the end, otherwise it would be a big, fat 9.

A friend of mine's brother was in the band, the late Gary Shider. Sounds like it was sampled a lot. Not one of my favorites by them, it gets a 5.

My friend is a singer (Tommy Shider) and he formed a doo wop group in the 1980s and named them The Sheps, after his favorite singer, James "Shep" Sheppard, lead singer of the Heartbeats and of Shep and the Lijmelites. Here's Tommy pn thye lead here doing a 5 Keys hit from the 50s.

464. Opeth - Windowpane : 8 - not exactly fond of the Yngwie Malmsteen solo bridge, but the rest (singing, bass line, even synths !) is top notch.
