We finally hit the magic 100! What does this mean? That from now on we get more drop-offs. Basically if you have favorite in, say, the last 15 you better say goodbye to them while you can, because they are on the chopping block. Still, there is time to enjoy their company:

Agreed. Yes, there are artists who I think are overrated. But when it comes to Nick Cave, i will say that I have yet to enjoy a single album by him. I don’t get the charm, all of his albums are just him elaborately groaning over failed attempts at noir-esque production. That might be too harsh, but seriously, i don’t get the hype for any of his releases.Edre Peraza wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 4:35 am Even though I am not surprised, its so fucking infuriating to see Nick Cave at the top

Exactly. But even if I put aside his music, there are ton of new and up and coming artists this year that got snubbed.Cold Butterfly wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 10:56 pmAgreed. Re: MCCh 2019 (19) October 31
Time for another perspective.
The music world is extremely focused on young artists (and young audiences), in a way that you don't find in any other arts. Only few make it past 40 with full attention in tact; not always deservedly so. Having a guy in his sixties being on top of this list is totally unheard off (Bowie came close with Blackstar, but didn't top this list in the end; he was the year-end favorite though, but his album had a huge backstory and in a way cultural meaning, incomparable to Ghosteen). So I think it is awesome that Nick Cave has been able to remain in a certain spotlight and kept his creative juices flowing for so long. There is enough appreciation for the young (see most else of this list) and that is cool, but having this One Old Man Who Could here is simply awesome to me. It is also of interest to note that he seems more popular in recent years. He was always something of an outsider/ cult figure, but nowadays he sells out big stadiums - without having had a truly big hit, no less! When I grow up I want to be Nick Cave!
Also, don't interpret this list wrongly. Critics didn't snub other albums in favor of Ghosteen. This was not a considered vote; critics rated it on it's own, not in comparison with other albums. That's why the MegaCritic list tends to be so different that the eventual Year-end-lists; it is another thought process. And although I expect Ghosteen to do fine at the year-end-lists it will very likely not end at #1. Younger artists will.

Haven't seen any other reviews on FIBS but The Guardian bafflingly called it an "unsatisfyingly structured racket" in a 2-star review. Did they even listen to the album?
All I got inside is vacancy!
