Decade-End Top 100 from Korean Community

Post by Sunwoo1213 »

I'm working as an administrator in Korean music community, and we made our all-decade list from september to october.

We used acclaimedmusic's EOY Spreadsheet and modified it to made our own list, so I just brought the result and show our taste to this forum. We made Top 100 for Album Lists, Top 50 for Single Lists and Korean Album Lists.

Album Top 100 List:

Any list with An empty bliss beyond this world is alright by me.

Cool album list, what Korean albums this decade would you recommend?

Mid-Air Thief's Crumbling, and self title is relatively well known by RYM

and other albums i recommend are

E SENS - The Anecdote (2015) / Hip-Hop
XXX - Second Language (2019) / Hip-Hop
Loro's - W.A.N.D.Y. (2014) / Post-Rock
3rd Line Butterfly - Dreamtalk (2012) / Indie Rock
Glen Check - Haute Couture (2012) / Synth-Pop
The Koxx - The New Normal (2015) / Indie Rock

those may represent korean indie scene in my opinion

Sweet, cheers Sunwoo :) I don't know how many of the top 50 I'll get through to be honest but I'll start making my way through your personal picks tonight!

Finally got round to completing the shortlist- I couldn't find Second Language, I couldn't stand the vocals on The New Normal to be frank and Haute Couture was well-done but too 80s for me (BATAILLE! could have been the result of a more streamlined Sungazer though). But I very much enjoyed the others!

The Anecdote's production was wavy but I think rap, out of all genres, has the biggest difficulty with the translation barrier. Luckily, there were enough snatches of English to grab on to in parts.

On the strength of Dreamtalk, Third Line Butterfly remind me of Wolf Alice in that they're equally capable of being tranquil and furious, while at the same time making their influences sound fresh.

They also stray into the post-rock patch that W.A.N.D.Y. is at home in. Loro's create moments of dramatic beauty comparable to anything Godspeed have put their name to.

Crumbling might be the best of the lot, a very human and cohesive folktronica set, sounding woozy in the main but with a strong backbone.

I'll include the last 3 albums in my albums of the decade, so thanks Sunwoo1213, I never would've found these pearls otherwise!
