Albums and Songs of 1987 Poll
Posted: Fri Aug 30, 2019 11:03 pm
Come one, come all to the poll that will celebrate the yellowest decade of them all, the 1980s!
It's now time to claim your side in the late-80s teen pop wars. Debbie Gibson?
Or Tiffany?
Have your say in these and other matters in the 1987 poll!
A few things remain the same with the decade poll, and a few things will be different.
What will remain the same is that I will ask you to post ranked lists of your favorite albums and songs of each year. Keeping with recent tradition, the top 10 albums and songs from each year will automatically qualify for the final, and albums and songs in the 11-20 range will become eligible to be "wildcard" entries. At the end of the 10 yearly polls, the top 50 of the 100 candidates will qualify for the finals based on a new wildcard point system:
Wildcard points = (Yearly points)/(number of ballots)
The biggest change is the point system. Your ranked albums and songs will be assigned points using the following formula:
300/(rank + 2)
Moreover, I will assign points to all of your ranked entries, not only your top 15. Lists must have a minimum of 5 albums and songs to be eligible, but feel free to come up with extended lists if you like - every ranked album and song will receive points!
The deadline for your 1987 lists is 11:59pm forum time on September 30th.
Formatting:
It would be helpful to me if you could use the same delimiter between your rank and the artist as you use to separate the artist from the album/song. Something like 1 | Jody Watley | Looking for a New Love works great!
Eligibility:
Any song (including a re-recording of an older song) is eligible if it was released in 1987. I will use the following hierarchy to determine eligibility:
1. AM
2. Discogs/RYM
3. Wikipedia
If you include a song or album you think is questionable, it would help me if you could indicate the source it comes from (album/EP/single).
And we're off!
