I think it makes sense to combine versions.
In that case, I'll save my vote for "Walking on Sunshine" for the 1985 version. I've removed it from my list and added at Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell". Thanks!

Alright, 1983. A relatively strong year, though admittedly it doesn't quite beat 1981 or 1982 for me. Notedly, Yumi Matsutoya makes her third appearance at the top of the albums from my contributions. It seems that she dominated the early '80s (and most of the '70s) for me, but unfortunately her decline starts.

14 | Lady Pank | Lady Pank
15 | Noel Ellis | Noel Ellis
16 | S. Kiyotaka & Omega Tribe | Aqua City
17 | Anri | Timely!!

Thanks Moonbeam, not long joined here, I'm currently compiling a list of my favourite songs ever, so I fully intend to inflict more of my music taste on everyone!

I'm also reading (and listening) through AM's exhaustive Top Songs of All Time 2015 at the minute, we must be a due a follow-up poll surely? ;-)
We typically have a 3 year rotation for our "big" polls: albums, songs, and artists.

The artist poll is being hosted this year, the next album poll should be in 2020, and the next song poll should be in 2021!

Hi Moonbeam, this is the same album as 'Yasimika', it was originally released untitled. The 'Yasimika' title was added on re-releases.
Thank you! I would have probably missed this!

This is kind of embarassing. I said that this year had no really big songs for me.
Apparently I overlooked this one.

David Sylvian and Ryuichi Sakamoto - Forbidden Colours

Will be my actual #1 (Sorry Nits)
(New Order will be bumped off, but probably receive it's vote in '88)

I've always loved to listen to Japan's Nightporter and this song back to back, I only learned that Sylvian was Japan's singer earlier this year. It explained a lot.

Is it too late to add Anne Clark - Changing Places from BMAA to my list? Slide it in at #4.

I'm pretty sure that this one is from 1984, but now that you and Live in Phoenix have both just included it, I'm starting to wonder. Do either of you have a source for it being released in 1983? If not, do you mind saving it for 1984?

Watchin' Girl appeared on the Aura Music album, which was released in 1983 as per Shonen Knife's website
Old version of the website said 1983-11-15
https://web.archive.org/web/20081211035 ... index.html

Current one says 1983-12-31
http://shonenknife.net/bios/bios1983.html

The website versions mix up the dates of the 1983 events a bit, but both have the album in 1983.

Although Discogs and RYM have it as a 1984 release.

What is probably an otherwise very forgettable 1983 movie features two hot '80s songs -- "Heaven," as well as "Obsession" (later by Animotion, here by the original performers).

Geez Louise, BobPatience, thank you. (Have you ever seen someone defend you more than you'd defend yourself? As I looked further into the Shonen Knife song, it was looking like a bonus CD track to a 1983 release, and otherwise 1984 ... I don't usually check a band's personal website.)

Incidentally, Moonbeam, if I have something ineligible, I don't need to replace it -- at worst, I still would have 81 songs getting in. Though of course I'd like the chance regardless to defend the song years.

You're welcome. I also don't usually check band's websites, especially for older material they usually seem pretty bad release date-wise. But after I read Wikipedia claiming the November '83 it seemed like a nice challenge to track an actual source.

With the magic of Google, by searching on 'shonen knife aura music' I found http://www.skeptictank.org/files/en004/shonendi.htm which has Aura Music as a '1983 sep?' which at least shows that 1983 is very possible. And http://www.geocities.jp/shonen712jp/disc/01_e.html which is dead since 31 March, but the Google 'preview' said 'AURA MUSIC [Nov.15,1983]' which looked really promising, but was still not good enough. (I later found out that the Shonen Knife website appears at the bottom of the second Google Page, but who ever goes there?).

So I ended up Googling the 'Zero Records compilation LP Aura Music in November 1983' line from Wikipedia, which results in no usable hits. But, for some reason, 'Zero Records compilation LP Aura Music November 1983' (only removing 'in') gives you a link to 'https://www.revolvy.com/page/Shonen-Knife' Which says 'They then contributed to the Zero Record compilation album AURA MUSIC which was released on November 15 and included three of their songs: "Watchin' Girl", "Banana Fish", and "Parrot Polynesia".[2]' and that [2] was a reference to the archived page of their website. Which in turn led me to look up their actual website.

So lesson learned for me: looking up the artists' website can save some trouble. Although I don't think that it's ever bad to hone my 'Google-skills'.

It does help that I have a lot of time to do 'projects' with a scope as small as this one.

Of course, thank you!

As host, I'm happy to look into release year issues, but I'm sure I'll make mistakes sometimes, so I appreciate any extra help I get in this endeavor from either those submitting lists or those who know something I don't!

You've got this one listed twice. Do you want to replace one of them?

Glad to see another fan of this song! It didn't get much love in the 1982 poll, but I think it's their best song.
