Sorry to filibuster you here (temporarily), but I think this one is from 1983. Discogs/RYM/Wiki all have it as 1983. Do you have a source for it being from 1982? If not, care to replace it?
I actually do and you know it. No matter how much we (Bernie Barr, Climie Fisher and the honorable Ice MC) provided you with super extra reliable confirmation that Danseberc is from 1982 (WHICH IT IS....)... here you still are. Moody Moonbeam is never satisfied so why do I even try (LOTS OF TRIES... actually the best tries of ALL HISTORY many people told me everybody cared because it's such a good well made really good record), so go replace it with The Dreaming from Kate Bush because it's what you're used to.... you're used to losing and The Dreaming is an album for losers (WHICH IT IS, VERY KENT AND VERY LETHAL)

I only see this as a 1985 release. I know it was a B-side to "In Shreds", but it seems to only be on a reissued B-side from 1985 according to Discogs and RYM. Obviously this is a big call as you've put it at #1. Do you have a source for 1982?

This one is from 1983, so please keep it in mind for the 1983 poll!

OMG you are right! Sorry I got my dates messed up because "In Shreds" originally came out in 1982. Could you bump everything up by 1 place please.

These are listed as one album on AM. Maybe they shouldn't be, but that's how I've counted them so far. I've put the combined album at #16 for you, but I'm happy to move it up or down depending on what you'd like to do.

Keep this one for 1983!

I've already got votes for these as separate songs - the opposite problem to the Orchestra Baobab album! Do you want to keep both at their positions (tied) and move the others down accordingly?

Totally '80s: Using our old "steep" yearly point system, Texas band MDC (pictured) and their LP Millions of Dead Cops would be the winner of punk zine Maximum Rocknroll issue #1's staff picks; the most votes went to Hüsker Dü's "In a Free Land" 45. (Btw, the poll winner for the very last print issue, published this very month, would be the self-titled LP Arteries.)

Yes, voting for the Defunkt version of the song, and yes for the two Orchestra Baobab LP's combined, I always thought it was a double album anyway.

I like the Flexipop version, but my favorite is the eerie version on "Japanese Whispers," since that was the version I knew first. Let me know if you'd like me to move it to '83. ("Japanese Whispers" would be a contender for my all-time favorite album if it wasn't considered a "compilation." With its moody atmosphere, it definitely feels like an album (and a concept album, at that!).

Thanks, Moonbeam!

With its moody atmosphere, it definitely feels like an album (and a concept album, at that!).

Thanks, Moonbeam!
Regarding "Lament", you can go either way! I'd say in general it's probably best to vote for your favorite version of the song. I will certainly be voting for it in 1983, as I will be voting for Japanese Whispers, which feels like an album indeed.

I have spammed everyone who participated in the 1980 and 1981 polls who have not submitted lists for 1982. Sorry, everyone, but I want participation to be off the charts!

Woo hoo! Is this the Flexipop promo version you are voting for? The B-side version that appears on Japanese Whispers and The Walk EP is from 1983.

I think it is best to vote for our favorite versions, so I edited my list a bit, removing both "Lament" and Steve Winwood's "Talking Back to the Night," since I prefer the '87 remix. I'll vote for these versions in their respective years. (I also added a new #139 & 140, since I like round numbers.)

Also, I'm looking forward to (finally!) getting a chance to vote for "Japanese Whispers"!

Oh yeah - and Happy Birthday, Moonbeam! :happy-partydance:

MTV made its debut in the latter half of the first year of the '80s, and you can really start to see its impact on the musical landscape after only a few months. This year alone, we get Michael Jackson's Thriller, the definitive album of the MTV era, and we even get Madonna debuting this year. Truly the year the '80s - as we know it forty years later - began to create itself. Aside from the fabulous MTV pop and rock, what doesn't get heralded enough is what a fantastic year 1982 was for classical recordings.
