Capcom (edit: and Sega!) video game music added to Spotify

Post by Pierre »

To all geeks around here: in a highly unusual move from Japanese artists and companies, Capcom have made available a healthy amount of soundtracks from their video game series on Spotify, including Mega Man, Resident Evil, Street Fighter or Monster Hunter. The music is available under the account "Capcom Sound Team":

Most of the tracks and album titles are written in Japanese characters, though, so you might have to dig. Still, it's welcome from my viewpoint, and to think I was complaining not so long ago in the instrumental music poll thread that video game soundtracks were so hard to find. I hope other companies will follow the exemple set forth here.

Edit: all the articles are mentioning Capcom, and their library is admittedly the biggest, but Sega have also made available a number of soundtracks, and those include the Jet Set Radio and Sonic series!

This is good news! Especially MegaMan has some of the best 8 bit tunes out there.

Edit: Hopefully they change the titles to English and perhaps start using original composer names. Now it a very long scroll downwards on the artist page to get to the early MegaMans.

This is great! Praying that 8-bit and Midi compositions make it big on the instrumentals poll.

Of note: further research revealed that SNK and Sony have added soundtracks too. Here's the link for SNK:

Although I did play some Neo Geo games, I'll confess I don't remember the soundtracks much. And here's the link to Sony soundtracks:

But there's very little remarkable stuff here IMO, apart maybe from The Last Guardian.

Like everyone else, I now hope Nintendo and Square Enix will imitate them.

Yes please! But if Square Enix is as happy to share their soundtracks as the were when they brought Final Fantasy to Super Smash Bros I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

When I was kid, I loved the music off of the first five MegaMan games to the point where I taped the music off each level to listen to it when I wasn't playing. I still think they're excellent. I'm pretty excited it's up on Spotify!

Square-Enix added more music from Final Fantasy to Smash Bros? ;)

Yeah, right.

No, all FF soundtracks landed on Spotify and Apple Music two days ago, apparently
