Albums and Songs of 1980 Poll

Post by Moonbeam »

Come one, come all to the poll that will celebrate the yellowest decade of them all, the 1980s! :happy-partydance:

We will start the proceedings with your favorite albums and songs from 1980.

A few things remain the same with the decade poll, and a few things will be different.

What will remain the same is that I will ask you to post ranked lists of your favorite albums and songs of each year. Keeping with recent tradition, the top 10 albums and songs from each year will automatically qualify for the final, and albums and songs in the 11-20 range will become eligible to be "wildcard" entries. At the end of the 10 yearly polls, the top 50 of the 100 candidates will qualify for the finals based on a new wildcard point system:

Wildcard points = (Yearly points)/(number of ballots)

The biggest change is the point system. Your ranked albums and songs will be assigned points using the following formula:

300/(rank + 2)

Moreover, I will assign points to all of your ranked entries, not only your top 15. Lists must have a minimum of 5 albums and songs to be eligible, but feel free to come up with extended lists if you like - every ranked album and song will receive points!

The deadline for your 1980 lists is 11:59pm forum time on February 28th.

And with that, I decree the 1980s poll officially OPEN!

Brass in Pocket is from ‘79. Otherwise it’d be my number one in a heartbeat.

Do the 80's run from january 1st 1980 till december 31st 1989 or from january 1st 1981 till december 31st 1990 ?
Hi, vento vivimus!

The 1980s would commonly include the years 1980-1989. I know that the first decade goes from 1-10, etc., but as a decade can be any period of 10 years, it makes sense that the 1980s would include years that start with 198.

Hope to see a list from you!

I love the 80s so this should be fun.

Also like that songs/albums beyond the Top 15 can get points. Gives incentive to list more which can lead to increased exposure.

Indeed, it's listed as a 1979 song on AM. Rocky, do you want to add another?

Looks like this will easily be number one for 1980. I don't like it much myself. The guy can't sing at all IMO.

I’ve never been a huge Joy Division fan myself but I do see why this song has endured. It’s one of the creepiest things I’ve ever heard, especially knowing what happened to Ian Curtis in the end. It sticks with you.

The Lyrics are pretty great for a fairly popular song in the 80s as well.
