Best Moderately Acclaimed Albums 4 - Nominations Now Open!

Post by Brad »

It’s time to begin the nomination process for the 4th installment of Best Moderately Acclaimed Album (henceforth “MA4”)!

Best Moderately Acclaimed Album is a voting game where only albums ranked under 500 and bubblers are eligible. Additionally, albums that are "non-bubblers (i.e.- completely “unacclaimed” on AM) are eligible. This time through there will be no limit on non-bubblers.

There will be a single elimination draw with 128 albums, and now it's time to pick them.

Send me an ordered list of ten nominations at ModAcc3@aol.com. Please include the artist name and album name as they appear on AM, as well as the rank.

You have until Sunday, January 6th to make nominations (this may be extended if not all slots are filled).

I will select nominations as follows:
First I will go through and pick all the first place albums
Then, I will go through and pick all the second place albums
Then, the third place albums, etc, until the draw fills up.

No more than 25 will be picked ranked 1000 or higher, no more than 50 ranked 1500 or higher, no more than 75 ranked 2000 or higher, and no more than 100 ranked 2500 or higher, so make sure you spread your picks out through the entire list. If after the month the draw is not filled, there'll be a first come-first serve round posted on the forum.

Additional rules:
- No one person can nominate more than one album by the same artist.
- No albums that qualified for the third Moderate game are eligible.
- No albums that qualified for the second Moderate game are eligible, except those that were eliminated in Round 1.
- No albums that qualified for the first Moderate game are eligible, except those that were eliminated in Round 1 or Round 2.

To give people time to listen to as many of the albums as they have time for, the actual voting won't start until March.

Here's a list of the albums, ranked under 500, that are ineligible per the above stated restrictions:

Oops, read your post more carefully and answered my own question.

Another question, is there any restriction against 2010+ albums that are most likely going to end up top 500?

Yes, but I'm afraid I'll have to rely on the voter's discretion here as I'm a bit out of touch with the non-obvious newer releases and their potential positions in the grand scheme. As a general rule, let's stay away from 2012 altogether (as your other MA competition has this covered), and for 2010 - 2011 avoid anything in the top 20 year-end summaries.

Sound good?

Yes! I got your list as well as lists from Ddiamondd, Henry and myself so far... all awesome (and no duplicates yet!). That's 40 albums, so we only need at least 88 more!

Keep those lists coming, folks... this one promises to be another doozy!

To date, I have nine lists, from the following people:
Brad
Kingoftonga
Ddiamondd
Gillingham
Henrik
Henry
Honorio
Jirin
Michel

There are 88 albums eligible in these nine lists, with only one duplicate nomination (and one list with only nine albums).

Plenty of time to submit your lists!

We have our first official nominee to the next Moderate game.

Ondatropica - Ondatropica

The winner of Best Moderately Acclaimed Album of 2012. A fantastic start, if you ask me.

HRS - Absolutely!

And while we're at it, we still need quite a few lists to complete our bracket, so I'm extending the deadline until we're full.

Send your lists!

Quick Updates:
HRS - Received your update
Nicolas - Received your list
Henry - I have your list but no #3 for some reason
Altogether, album count is at 117. We need 128 eligible albums to start the draw, so we'll need at least 2 more list submissions. As soon as the draw is complete with 128 eligible albums, I'll put the bracket together.

If you've been holding off to submit your list at a later date, NOW is the time!

Thanks!

Are you still planning to count the MA2012 winner, and if so, are you counting that toward the 117?
