Around November of last year, I set a goal to finally tackle the full top 10,000 listed on this site. I decided to split it up by year, starting with the most recent years going backward. All along the way, I've been making my own top 100 list for each year.
I just reached the early 50s, leaving me with my final 500 songs. Considering the era, most of these songs are less than 3 minutes, so it won't be too long now until I complete this goal.
This has been such a journey. I'm happy I found this site almost a decade ago now, it's introduced me to so much.

I've been doing the same thing, I forget when I started, and I have about 800 to go, so not far behind you. I've not been listening to them in any particular order; I have been listening to the top 3000 albums too, which will take me several more years. It's been an incredible voyage of discovery and will continue to be.

Had some things pop up where I couldn't really listen to music and keep track, but I'm down to the final 100!
Which means I'm in the middle of the 1920s, and I have no idea how I'm going to remember which is which when all these songs are "Something Blues." Hmm...

Impressive. I had the same goal, but I think I'm going to shelve it. I just got through all of the top 7,000, and that was daunting enough. I have never heard 1,200 of the final 3,000.BleuPanda wrote:Had some things pop up where I couldn't really listen to music and keep track, but I'm down to the final 100!

I think it's easier to break it up like I did. The lower end songs tend to work better in the context of their contemporaries. I knew I wouldn't be able to make it through as one big chunk; much easier when I can look at it as several 100-200 song sets.

You didn't do the bubblers, did you?BleuPanda wrote:And...finished!

If not you will never find out why Cuddle Up a Little Closer, Lovey Mine by Ada Jones and Billy Murray is secretly the best thing to ever happen to music.

I'll likely tackle the bubblers next! I'm already doing so for 2017, but I'll probably redirect some of my attention to the album list.

Let's go! I finished too. Some stats:BleuPanda wrote:And...finished!

I put 4,342 of the 10,000 in my own top 10,000.
Amount of songs I like per thousand:
Top 1,000 - 822
1,001-2,000 - 611
2,001-3,000 - 494
3,001-4,000 - 424
4,001-5,000 - 393
5,001-6,000 - 365
6,001-7,000 - 306
7,001-8,000 - 330
8,001-9,000 - 297
9,001-10,000 - 300
So a clear trend for the top 6,000 and then pretty flat quality-wise after that.
And the breakdown per decade of the 4,342 I like the most vs the 4,342 AM likes the most. As expected, the critics like the '80s way more than I do and I like the last 20 years way more than they do.
