My predictions:
The Cure
Def Leppard
Stevie Nicks
Radiohead
Rage Against the Machine

Edit: I voted for:
The Cure
Devo
Kraftwerk
Radiohead
Rage Against the Machine

Edit 2: I'm surprised with how well Stevie Nicks is doing in the poll. I'll replace LL with her in my prediction.

Odd that Kraftwerk and The Cure aren't already in given how long they've been around for.

If the Cure and Radiohead don’t get in I’ll be shocked. Def Leppard will probably take the obligatory classic rock vote.

I don't think they're locks, but then again, what is? Doesn't Roxy Music appeal more to the general voter of Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. They are more classic.

I voted:

Radiohead
Roxy Music
Todd Rundgren
Chaka Khan
Kraftwerk

We have three AM Top 100 artists nominated, but no first-eligibles like Outkast or Beck (which were trendy picks this time around).

They may cave to popular consensus and induct Def Leppard and Stevie Nicks, but I would be surprised if Radiohead, The Cure OR Kraftwerk (though not necessarily all three at once) were left off. I think at least one of the three will get in.

I'd vote for:

Todd Rundgren
The Cure
Radiohead
Roxy Music
The Zombies

Stevie Nicks and Def Leppard are presently in the lead.

Chubby Checker, The Ravens, Johnny Ace, Chuck Willis, The Clovers, Wynonie Harris, Roy Brown, Kool and the Gang, etc..... are all far more deserving than John Prine.

Here are my picks.

Radiohead / The most deserving of the group, I was so surprised when they were not a first year induction. A shame really!
Janet Jackson / Yeah, not Rock but look at the body of work this woman has put out over four decades. Totally deserving!
The Cure / Consistent, great, come on, you Gothheads! Vote!
Roxy Music / Probably not a snowball's chance in hell but, one can hope!
Todd Rundgren / For "Hello It's Me" and "I Saw the Light" are enough in my book. There is so much more.

Apparently the reason Radiohead missed out the first year was because of their unwillingness to perform at the ceremony.

They could be inducted this year as an apologia. Makes sense after all.

A similar fate may befall Oasis in 2020, as Noel Gallagher is in vocal opposition to the Hall.

There's no nominee I outright dislike this year. The least of them would be Def Leppard but I know they're getting in anyway as the obligatory classic rock act.

I'm fully prepared to be disappointed when The Cure and Radiohead miss the cut.

Also, Def Leppard will almost certainly win the fan vote. Which reminds me, not that I think the old voting system was great, I feel like online fan votes never end well.

Well, last I checked, Stevie Nicks was actually leading the fan vote, followed by Def Leppard and The Cure.

If I heard that somewhere I would not be upset, but I would never play any of her solo stuff on my own accord. There's plenty of deserving acts that should go in before they induct an act like Nicks who is not only marginal but is also already inducted as part of a band.

Currently the fan vote's top 5 are (in descending order) Stevie Nicks, Def Leppard, The Cure, Todd Rundgren, and The Zombies. Which honestly would be a fine group of inductees, although the last spot is up for grabs (hopefully for an act like Devo or Janet Jackson or LL Cool J).

Are the votes for Stevie Nicks not based a little too much on Fleetwood Mac? I mean, she had solo success sure, but I doubt that was enough to even be considered if Fleetwood Mac never existed. And she is already in for that act.

Personally, this group doesn't do much for me. Only one act I genuinely love (Radiohead) with two I really respect (Kraftwerk and LL Cool J). But also only one I dislike (but this is Janet Jackson, whom I despise). Some of the more respected acts I just haven't listened that much to (The Cure and Todd Rundgren mostly), while others are good, but to be based on too little (The Zombies and MC5, both fine, but their classic output is very small).

I was thinking the same thing. I feel like her solo career is mostly known by "Edge of Seventeen" and a few duets.

There are a lot of good nominees this year so it should be a strong class regardless. I'd fully expect Janet Jackson and Radiohead to get in and most of these will get in eventually. Roxy Music should obviously be in but I'm surprised to see them even nominated because of the Hall's US bias (I mean, The Smiths, New Order, Brian Eno, Kate Bush, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden aren't in. WTF!).

I love Radiohead, really like The Zombies - mostly for Odessey and Oracle - and Rage Against the Machine. I guess if I had to choose two others it would be The Cure and Todd Rundgren, but I feel pretty indifferent about the rest.

Yes, very much so and I was originally going to post it there, but I thought that people on this forum, where Janet Jackson seems particularly beloved, would not be in the mood for it and frankly, neither am I. In short, she is one of those artists who represents an approach to music that is opposite to what I'm going for, basically music as product/ marketing instead of expression/ emotion/ invention/ entertainment. Listening to her I just hear emptiness and fakeness. And I realize how harsh and mean-spirited that sounds and I'm sorry, but I just can't put it any other way.

OK. I mean it's your opinion and that's all that matters. Just curious as to why so much hatred and you answered it.

I can't fault anyone for despising one of my favorites when I have posted such open disdain for certain forum favorites.

What I will say is that since Control, Janet has been very involved in the creative process behind her albums. Interviews with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (as well as Janet), contemporary accounts of the process, etc., show that her albums are all about communicating where she is in her life at that particular moment and what she wants to say to her fans. Starting with Rhythm Nation 1814, she established a pattern of making her new album markedly different from its predecessor in sound and/or theme. That album in particular was massively important to a lot of black youth at the time, as Janet expressed the struggles they were going through and encouraged them to further their education and fight for a world of racial equality. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have said she could have easily rested on her laurels from Control and put out a 9-track album called Escapade that was carefree, but Janet herself felt compelled to focus the album on societal issues. From there, she explored her sexual identity on janet., touched on deep feelings of depression and emotional abuse on The Velvet Rope, and opened up about the breakdown of her marriage on All for You, for instance.

Of course, her albums are pop albums, so in that sense, the sound and style reflects the sonic zeitgeist of the time (though I'd argue her albums helped forge the sonic zeitgeist of the subsequent few years, particularly with Control and Rhythm Nation 1814), and you'd better believe she and her team felt pressure to keep producing hits, but I feel those hits and those songs strongly bear her identity.

With that in mind, I can totally understand not digging her sound, her style, her voice, etc., but she isn't just a studio puppet or the face of a mindless corporate profit-hungry endeavor.

No hard feelings, Rob! We all have artists we love and, well, don't love!

Well, I just voted on the Hall of Fame for the very first time (by the way I voted for Radiohead, The Cure, Kraftwerk, Todd Rundgren and Janet Jackson). But despite having participated I still despise the R&R Hall of Shame. Last year I got really upset with the ridiculously low position of Radiohead on the voters poll (see this). But now I think the opposite way, I'm delighted to see Radiohead again being ignored by the Classic Rock hordes. The longer the gap between the eligibility and actual induction of Radiohead the lesser credibility of the institution and of Rock & Roll itself as a living entity and not a thing from the past. Sadly The Cure are getting many votes, it would be nice to have them ignored again, just like The Smiths, New Order, Pixies, The Jam and so many other original and groundbreaking musicians.
By the way, I've been listening during the weekend to the whole solo discography of Stevie Nicks (something I could never have done with Def Leppard) and I've found it quite pleasant even if probably (at least in my opinion) her solo output does not add anything really relevant to her Fleetwood Mac material to deserve the induction as a solo act.
Anyway maybe Dave Bry from The Guardian is right: "the best way we could honor rock’n’roll is to destroy the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame."

I visited the museum this year. (I thought that was the harmless part of it, but the Guardian writer is bothered by the museum as much as anything.) It seems incredible now, not being familiar with the video before, that when I walked in, the song playing was in fact Run-DMC's "King of Rock."

That’s funny! Yeah I’ll never get the hatedom for the Rock Hall. I love it and I love complaining about it.
