6001/6096: Heats, Week 4

Post by Bang Jan »

The way this game works is that you will be given two sets of four songs, your job is to rank each of the sets from best to worst. First place gets 4 points, second gets 3 etc.

The song with the most points in each set will advance to the semi-finals. If there is a tie for points, then the song with more first place votes will advance. If they are tied on first place votes as well, there will be a sudden death tiebreak. Also the six highest scoring non-winners in the heat stage (based off point per voter and then percentage of first place votes) will also advance to the semi-finals.

Feel free to ask any questions, deadline is next Wednesday at 15:00 UTC.

Wow, I am REALLY missing the boat with "All the Young Dudes." I love David Bowie (probably one of my top 10 artists), but this song never connected. (Neither did Mott the Hoople's "original" version. Of course, I know Bowie wrote it for them.) Since tons of people whose opinions I admire are voting it #1, I think I'm going to have to give it a few more listens...

I actually listened to Bowie's studio demo version of the track for the first time because of this game. I like it, but may I recommend listening to the 1974 version from David Live? It's a bit slower and has more of Bowie's typical mid-70's soul going on, maybe it will help you get a new perspective on the song.

Thanks for the recommendation, Krurze. I had heard this version before, but I gave it another listen. I think one of the issues I have is that, being a big Bowie fan, there are so many of his songs I enjoy more. It may click with me someday, though. (Years ago, I didn't care for "Starman," but it's one of my favorites now.)
