Idea for game: Albums World Cup
Idea for game: Albums World Cup
Hello, all. Since we are close to the World Cup, I thought it would be interesting if we had a game with the same format in our forum, in which 32 (or maybe 64 albums) could compete, first in a group stage, then in playoffs.
It would work exactly like previous "AM World Cup", when artists competed using a diferent song each round. Every album could be selected, since, obviously, it contains at least 7 (or 8, depending on the chosen number of "teams") songs.
Each participant should make his/her lineup with the song that will compete on each stage, sending it to me via PM before the begining of the championship. The most interesting, then, is that we could have matches like "Like a Rolling Stone" vs "Her Majesty" or "From a Buick 6" vs "Here Comes the Sun". It would be quite an unpredictable game.
If a reasonable number of people (at least 16) is interested in participating, I could host the game.

Cool idea!
Re: Idea for game: Albums World Cup
Well, I don’t know if we will get to an enough number of participants, but the ones interested can post here on, two albums they would bring to competition. Don’t put their “line up” here, since it would spoil part of the fun.
Every album with 7 tracks or more can be chosen. I still haven’t decided what to bring myself...

I think I'll take Dig Me Out by Sleater-Kinney and Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) by Wu-Tang Clan.

Re: Idea for game: Albums World Cup
I have counted seven interested people so far. With one more AMer, we could start a game with 16 or, even, 24 teams.
I would go with “Sound of Silver” and “The Queen is Dead”!

I will take Dummy and Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Re: Idea for game: Albums World Cup
That’s great!
Since it doesn’t seem that other people are gonna participate, I thought of allowing eight more albums to compete. Therefore, every participant can choose one more album, so we get to 24 teams and use the same format as UEFA Euro 2016. Of course, any other AMer that feel interested in taking part can indicate three albums either, until we complete the eight remaining teams.

I'll field Parallel Lines

Nice to see so many great albums in the game. There’s gonna be a lot of competition!
I’ll take “Pet Sounds”

Re: Idea for game: Albums World Cup
Also, I’ve already made my teams’ lineup. So you can PM to me which are the seven songs that will compete from each of your albums, and in which order (from the first game to a possible final).

The competition is pretty stiff so far but I’m going to stump for the Idler Wheel by Fiona Apple.

Too late to join? I would like Elephant and Yoshime Battles The Pink Robots
Re: Idea for game: Albums World Cup
That’s great, Jirin!
Not late. Send me a PM with your song picks for each round.
By the way, if more people are interested, we extend the game to 32 albums.

Re: Idea for game: Albums World Cup
Actually, just as an added question.
How will it be decided which album is in what group? Just curiosity on my part ^_^

Exactly!Jirin wrote:3 for group, 4 for knockout?
I thought of using random.org to create the brackets and the order of each one. If you consider more fair, we could put the most acclaimed albums as seeds, but my initial idea was to leave it all to the random choice.Mulholland wrote:Actually, just as an added question.

Did my PM send? I think I sent my selections but I don't know if it went through.

If there is still room, I'll take another album: The Stooges' Fun House. I'm picking this album to shake things up a little; it's outside my comfort zone.

I was more asking because it would be nice if, at least in the group stages, a group doesn't contain two albums nominated by the same personToni wrote:Exactly!Jirin wrote:3 for group, 4 for knockout?

Re: Idea for game: Albums World Cup
Good point. I can try to randomize the albums in a way nobody has ends with two of their albums in the same bracket. I’ll figure out.
Re: Idea for game: Albums World Cup
Godot, if we keep with this number of participants, there will be no room for this anymore. Unless you exchange one of your other picks with this one.prosecutorgodot wrote:If there is still room, I'll take another album: The Stooges' Fun House.
