In light of the discussions on how many 'classic' tracks we should allow on this thread I'm pledging that every other week I will nominate a somewhat obscure favorite track of mine. This week I'd like to nominate:

Superchunk - 'Martinis On The Roof'

Looking forward to watching my song crash and burn because it isn't a well-established hit.

I'll go with:
Bjork - Stonemilker

I'm curious about this song. Expected it to land at a better place than #1000 in our songs by women poll considering the love for Bjork on this forum; but it seems like Bjork fans don't really care about her recent albums? I also simply wanted to go with the lowest song from that list, forgot it was something everyone here probably knows but whatever.

Seconded. I already wrote extensively about that song here. I don't think it is an established forum favorite, like the current numbers 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 here. It's more second tier Björk in fame and acclaim.

I think I'm going to skip actually voting in this until we clear out some of these classics. 8 of the 10 songs that moved on last week are in the top 2000 on acclaimed music. I detest the idea of having to intentionally avoid voting for the songs I like the most, but I also hate the idea of voting for the same songs every week because someone happened to nominate a song from my all-time top 100. I don't see any point in participating. This has essentially become a cycle of "Here's ten songs you haven't heard much before that are actually pretty good, but let's ignore them in favor of this song that has been done to death." I don't see a point in this.

Shame really, we need your opinion ! Here's a suggestion, which works for me : vote for your top 5 in the established tracks and keep some of your votes for the newbies.

I could do that, I guess. All this is really making me want is to establish an Overlooked Chart after Overlooked Songs 2 finishes, but then we'd have 3 weekly charts...

Alright, so from this point forward, I'm going to limit myself to five votes from the old block and five votes from the new. My ranking this week:

Survivors:
How Soon is Now
God Only Knows
Scenario
Feeling Good
Let's Make Love
Superstition
Golden Years
Je t'aime
Walk on By
Torn

New entrants:
Higher and Higher
Her Jazz
The Seventh Seal
The Bottle
Once It was Alright Now
Screenwriter Blues
Dark and Long
Full Throttle
Come on In My Kitchen
A Lady of a Certain Age

I actually liked all of the songs this week. Not voting for Dark and Long was weird; it's one of the best songs off an album in my all-time top 100, but I guess it doesn't work as well on its own (and this week had a really good selection of new entrants). Higher and Higher is a song that grows on me every time I hear it. I definitely remember it once being one of the indistinct songs near the top of the Acclaimed Music list, but Jackie Wilson's vocals are magnificent here.

I don't hope this discussion will start every week, but as I have noted before I do feel some of the frustration of BluePanda (and clearly others as well). I just think this poll has more potential than we get out of it at the moment.

So I do want to honestly ask the question to those who regularly nominate established classics/ favorites: why? What is the point of it?

I also couldn't help but fail to see the irony of StevieFan13's second comment here: lamenting that his obscure nomination will lose to familiar songs, even though most of the familiar songs were added by himself. Sorry if this seems a bit rude, but I could see some wry humor in the situation.

Thank you for your votes, Bleu. And your contribution comforted me in what I said earlier : I value your input greatly.
Now on the subject of Dark and Long...have you ever listened to Lemon Interrupt's Bigmouth ? I love Dark & Long but love Bigmouth even more. Actually another listen made it jump within my top 500

Fair point. I did kinda bring this upon myself.

Maybe we should just disqualify any songs from the AM top 1000 or our own top 1000?

Anyway, I'd like to nominate Zap Mama & Erykah Badu - Bandy bandy

Has anyone suggested the possibility of songs higher on the AM list taking less time to enter the hall of fame? I don't know how much that would effect, but I think it's something to consider.

My nomination: Madonna - Cherish
Splish splash, I was raking in the cash
