A masterpiece, which has become a forum favourite thanks to the overlooked songs poll. There is a lot to take in here of course and trying to capture it here in a few line seems impossible. Everything I can say seems trite in comparison to the scope and beauty of the piece. What I like is that it has the sacral feel of much classical music, while the electronic glitches guide it back to Earth. How intentional that is I don’t know, but I find it deeply moving.
StevieFan13:
Pretty but too long. If you can say it in thirty-five minutes, you can say it in three minutes, is what I say. I know many might disagree, but I believe it. Still solid, though.
DaveC:
No surprise that this is our highest ranked song that is unranked on AM. Interestingly quite divisive. Our next lowest songs with 7 fans are at #16 & #8, so the shortage of decent middling votes has really pulled this one down.

A sad song about remembering that everything comes to an end. Still, it sounds like a glorious piece of rock pop that would make the Beatles proud. It could have been pompous, but somehow it comes off as sincere and moving.

Not the most famous track of Kid A, but it is my favourite. It is also really different from most that it is going on there. Here we have lyrics with hardly any meaning and a sound that is very much inspired by jazz. From this Radiohead make a song that sounds really unique. It has an elevating quality that’s rare in their work. That it somehow still fits well onto Kid A is the icing on the cake.
StevieFan13:
It’s getting harder and harder to deny Kid A’s musical adventurousness. “The National Anthem” is actually magnificent, the first track from the album that really connected with me. Such masterful playing. The sonic insanity on display here can’t be matched.

We continue with our game called Remember Which Strokes Song Is Which. Oh, this is the one that for completely random reasons is seen as the best one. I like this one the most too, if for no other reason that it is the one I listened to a more than the others. With a band like The Strokes you have to count your blessing wherever you can get them.
DaveC:
Yes Rob. That is exactly how I feel about the Strokes and this song.
