Rush will get in for sure. After that it's hazy. I'd imagine they'd at least put 4 in, I don't think there's ever been less than that... If I had to bet I'd go Rush, Marvellettes, Public Enemy and Randy Newman. Possibly NWA and Joan Jett.

Amazing that Deep Purple and Kraftwerk aren't included already. If Marvelettes and Joan Jett have a better chance it would be better if non-US artists weren't eligible at all.

Excellent comment Henrik. My personal experience in the States has been that there is not quite as much love for Kraftwerk as there has been for Deep Purple. I do not see the Marvelettes being inducted and would agree with a view that Joan Jett is not a particularly high priority for induction.

FYI - Rolling Stone Magazine touts the chances of Heart, Public Enemy and Rush to be among this years inductees.

Rush has been eligible for 14 years, so is the band really a shoo-in with this first nomination? It has happened before, so maybe so. The HOF committee is 30-40 people, whereas the voting membership is 400-500 or so, so we could have plenty of the latter folks who will vote for Rush (or an act who has been ignored for a period of time).

I didn't even realize how long they've been eligible. I'm not a Rush fan but even I can see how big of an oversight that is. The weird thing is that Rush is a band that should be helped by the Rolling Stone classic rock bias. It's shocking that this is their first nomination.

Doesn't Jann Wenner hate prog rock, though? Or just hate Rush specifically? I recall a quote where he vowed that "Rush will enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame over my dead body," or something like that.

I'm excited that Kraftwerk has been nominated. It's true, they've never been that well-known here in America, but I'm hoping their recent "retrospective" at the New York Museum of Modern Art got them a little bit of attention; it got mentioned in several newspapers and magazines in the U.S., at least. Here's to hoping; I think it's criminal they're not already in.

Deep Purple is one of the greatest traditional rock bands ever to walk the planet. It is a sham that they aren't already in the HOF, and that their legacy is entirely defined by a couple of huge hits dwarfed by their other material.

I'm not as big on Rush, but they're absolutely overdue for inclusion as well.

Really good group of nominees this year, most of them deserve inclusion at some point.

As great as it would be to see Public Enemy get in, I can't imagine it happening on their first ballot.
I can picture Donna Summer's death earlier this year playing a role in her possible induction. And of course, the constant call for Rush and Deep Purple to be in the Hall from rock radio fans everywhere could help push them through.

I have to say, as a Brit, I had no idea that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame existed.

A quick wikipedia search suggests that it's quite an american idea and means very little in terms of acclaim and recognition.

That is correct, but it still infuriates American musicheads to no end.

One of digitaldreamdoor's editors already provided his annual breakdown: http://digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_ ... -2013.html

I don't think it's perfect but it's interesting nonetheless.

I agree with this almost 100%. Imo the most deserving of induction are in that order:

1. Public Enemy
2. N.W.A
3. Deep Purple
4. Donna Summer
5. Kraftwerk
--------------
6. Chic
7. Rush

I think Deep Purple, Rush and Public Enemy are almost locks for induction and it seems likely they're finally going to induct Summer. My guess for the fifth slot is Albert King.

Rush and Deep Purple. I am almost starting to take them seriously now. Just get them both in, Rock Hall.

The Hall certainly has its fair share of acts who have been very acclaimed and are important- and, sure, there are some others who were less so. But that doesn't take away from the fact that it is an honor and recognition.

By the way- the UK had the UK Music Hall of Fame, but that only lasted for a handful of years.

After 13 years of eligibility and five nominations, the late Donna Summer will be inducted into the HOF.

Word is that Public Enemy is a first-year inductee.

Nice for Heart; the band was eligible for 11 years, a little less than Donna Summer. Rush had to wait 14 years since becoming eligible, Randy Newman had 22 years and Albert King had a 25-year wait.

The Stooges had eight nominations when it was inducted; perhaps eight will be Chic's "Lucky" number, too.

Glad to see Rush and Donna Summer get in (obviously PE too, but that was a given), but seriously, still no Deep Purple? Their case is so much better than Heart's. Apparently being generally considered one the greatest hard rock bands ever isn't enough?
