The Best Albums And Songs of 1998

Post by nicolas »

Episode 9: 1998

Please submit at least your favorite 5 songs and/or albums of the year 1998. Lists must be ranked. Only the top 15 songs/albums will be given points.

The deadline is midnight (Pacific Time) on the 31st of October. For the scoring, rules and other details check here.

15 albums/songs per year will advance, including at least 1 non anglophone album/song(the Nicolas/Henrik act). To be eligible to the second round, songs/albums must have a minimum of 2 votes. In case of a tie, a tie-breaker will be set up.

Please submit your list starting with #1 (no reverse order please) according to the following example

Artist - Album/Song

you can use 1), 1. or whatever separation character you like but what matters is not to reverse the song order and respect the artist - song order.

EPs and compilations are not allowed. The generally admitted reference for dates is Rate Your Music, unless proven otherwise.

Do you have one list of all the songs and albums from 90-97 (I want to get a jump start on the listening for the final poll)? If not, I can just go back to the individual threads.

I want to know if people are going to vote for "Bongo Bong" or "Je ne t'aime plus"? The first one slide over into the other with the same rhythm and Manu Chao's signature bouncy high note. I think we should agree on one of them, or consider them as one song.

Possible #1 for me.

An excellent year for electronic music indeed. Refreshingly, for once it looks like our consensus list won't be dominated by indie rock.

Does Beta Band - The Three E.P.'s count for the albums list this year? It would be my number 1 or 2.

For those looking for some more electronic music beyond the consensus favorites (obviously Air, Massive Attack, and Boards of Canada will make it), check out this Amon Tobin song. It's in both my and sonofsamiam's all-time top 100.

"The 3 EP's" is always THE question in album polls. I'm sorry but it's not eligible. These are EP's put together not an original album.

Thanks for reminding of these Charlie. I had totally forgotten that we decided that Antony & The Johnsons album is a 1998 release. nicolas please add that album to my #7 in albums (I'll edit my list after this post). Also I missed Good Humor when I checked AM and RYM charts. It's not a top 15 album for me but top 30 for sure.
