Best Moderately Acclaimed Album of 2017 - Nominations
Best Moderately Acclaimed Album of 2017 - Nominations
It's that time, the game where we listen to the underpraised gems of the last year.
Same rules as last year. Very simple, you have all of December to nominate one album. Eligibility rules have been a subject of controversy in some years, as we have tried to base it on Megacritic rankings, then albums got in that didn't do well on Megacritic but did really well on end of year critic lists. So let's just say, only the top 50 in Megacritic are officially barred from the competition, but 'Use your best judgment' and try to avoid nominating albums really popular among critics that are technically eligible. And of course, you should also leave out any December releases that clearly are being critically praised.
Once nominations are in, we will have all of January to listen to albums. You rank all the albums you manage to hear from best to worst. Final ranking will be based on win-loss formula, so if you don't list an album, it will neither help nor hurt the album.
Winner, as usual, gets free entry into the next Best Moderately Acclaimed Album.

I've been furiously listening to 2017 albums and will continue to do so for the next month. When is the nomination deadline?

London Grammar - Truth Is a Beautiful Thing
De gustibus et coloribus non est disputandum.
Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album of 2017 - Nominations
I'll go with:
William Basinski - A Shadow In Time
It's currently #59 on Megacritic (which is skirting the limit), but #226 on AM's year-end spreadsheet (as of 12/18) and not likely to move up on either since it was released 11 months ago.
Thanks Jirin!

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album of 2017 - Nominations
I'm going for
Jane Weaver - Modern Kosmology
While Aldous Harding's "Party" is technically eligible, it is now ranked (in EOY critic list aggregation) ahead of many Megacritic top 50 albums including "Semper Femina", "The Navigator", and (the excellent) "Relatives in Descent". "Party" will end at or close to the top of my year end list, so if anyone feels like cheekily inserting it into this comp then there is one guaranteed #1 vote.
