60th Grammy Nominations

Post by acroamor »

The Recording Academy just released the Grammy Nominations for this next year, and they're... surprisingly decent? For an organization known for getting it wrong more than getting it right, I don't mind this year's batch of nominees. The top four categories are:

Record of the year
"Redbone" - Childish Gambino
"Despacito" - Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber
"The Story of O.J." -- Jay-Z
HUMBLE. - Kendrick Lamar
"24K Magic" - Bruno Mars

Album of the year
"Awaken, My Love!" - Childish Gambino
"4:44" - Jay-Z
"DAMN." - Kendrick Lamar
"Melodrama" - Lorde
"24K Magic" - Bruno Mars

Song of the year
"Despacito"
"4:44"
"Issues"
"1-800-273-8255"
"That's What I Like"

Best new artist
Alessia Cara
Khalid
Lil Uzi Vert
Julia Michaels
SZA

and the individual categories can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/60th_Annual_Grammy_Awards

A decent bunch! Lorde cleaned up last time she was nominated for anythI got, but Jay and Kendrick are strong competition. Hoping SZA is best new artist, expecting Alessia Cara.

Wow, that is a disappointing list of songs. I don't think I'd put any of those in my top 100 for the year. Glad Melodrama got nominated, but Green Light should have made the cut too.

That's actually a decent group of albums for Album of the Year. I'm hoping Kendrick will get it after being snubbed two times in a row now.

They picked the wrong Kendrick Lamar song. "DNA" is fantastic.

My preferred winner [prediction]
Record of the year: Redbone / Humble. [Redbone]
Album of the year: DAMN. [DAMN.]
Song of the year: Despacito [1-800-273-8255]
Best new artist: SZA [Alessia Cara / Lil Uzi Vert]
Great year for hip-hop. The SOTY nominees feel so weird for the Grammys. An astounding non-nominee: Divide by Ed Sheeran! I thought the Grammys loved that guy!

Assorted thoughts on other categories:
Glad Gustafer Yellowgold gets some recognition in Children’s Albums
The music video for “Element” should have been nominate over the one for “Humble.”
La La Land must win one of the film categories right?
Pure Comedy packaging should win – I don’t even like the album that much, but the packaging is god-tier.
The Rap Album list is the best I’ve ever seen.

Unrelated, but my EOY songs list is going to be a RIOT! [pun intended]
