I'm going to say the hard deadline is tomorrow morning or when Father2TheMan submits their list, whichever comes first.

I have successfully added the AM and AMF all-time rank information, along with the years. All I need to do (in addition to adding Father2TheMan's vote) is add quotes, which I'll do while revealing the results.

I'm extending the artist ballot because I can't imagine being done revealing the results of the song poll by the end of the month.

I hope to begin as soon as F2TM submits his list and I have it added to the spreadsheet.

I believe we're at 17 lists so far. I expect this to be the least popular of the lists, especially due to the confusion over how to actually list each act.

Wow, I wonder how I arrived at that information. (Especially since I researched to avoid any embarrassing mistakes - how did that work out for me?) Thanks, Nassim - I'll make the change.

So, just to be clear, as I'm going through this, I'm essentially combining people who I think should be displayed together on the final list. I think there was a lot of confusion in how to do the artist list, so I'm trying to do what I think is best for the end result. So, I'm sorry to anyone who really wanted to only vote for one of the women in ABBA, etc.

There was probably a better way for me to handle the data collection for this poll, but too late now.

Actually, would anyone be willing to help with the current spreadsheet? I'm trying to make two columns for each artist, one being the names of the individual members and the other being the act(s) they are associated with. Basically, I want to be able to sort by both in case I don't realize x individual belongs to y band...and maybe I'm getting a little worn out with all the poll hosting and verifying information on wikipedia is probably my least favorite aspect.

Basically, I just need someone to go through each artist, marking their most important act first followed by any others of note. I haven't added the formulas or anything yet and it's sorted by artist, so it shouldn't spoil anything.

We currently have 18 lists; right now, I'm comfortable with doing a top 200 (a single #1 vote currently sits at #218).

You don't have to! You can list women from the same band on the same rank...and I've kind of been combining everyone if I am able.

The only group members I'm not combining are the two women in Fleetwood Mac; both are consistently being ranked on their own even within the same list. So, looking back on it, a good reason to list individual group members would be if that group member was notably stronger than any of their bands. Like, Kathleen Hanna is worth more here than either Bikini Kill or Le Tigre (because she essentially represents both of those bands combined), while the women of Sleater-Kinney I believe are weaker individually than Sleater-Kinney as a collective - I'll still make note of all their other notable projects when they are ranked.

Like, I'm not imagining that we just ranked MASSEDUCTION as our #2 album of last year along with "Los Ageless" as our number 3 song? Along with her self-titled being our #3 for 2014 and Digital Witness being in our top 10 for that year (and Strange Mercy also placing in our top 10 for 2011)? And now she's being outclassed by artists we collectively like a single song by?

Circling back to that post I made breaking down how the representation of women in critical lists has improved greatly over time, it's really disappointing to see so many users here pretty much ignoring modern women (especially in favor of acts that by all means are men who decided to have women perform their songs).

Honestly, this is a gripe I've had with this forum for a while now; Kelis, Missy Elliott, Cardi B...people actively lash out at women who express themselves with crassness, and people seem to actively encourage it. The discussion around "Bodak Yellow" was honestly one of the most disappointing things I've seen on this forum - the lack of self-awareness that this is yet another highly acclaimed and popular song by a black woman that we don't just not care for but feel the need to express our disdain for. Men are allowed anything, but it's clear women have to present themselves in a certain way here; it's no coincidence that the third highest act on acclaimed music to not be in our Hall of Acclaim is Missy Elliott.

Like, really, if "Bodak Yellow" was the song that tipped the scale to make you think critics don't know what they're talking about anymore, maybe you really, really need to sit down and think about what that song represents and what its existence means - if you think it's a song simply about bragging, you're missing the context. (and it's funny, the song I find myself comparing it to the most in a structural sense is Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit - both songs feel like a constant build that never grants the safety of release. I'm surprised it's so popular, as 'Bodak Yellow' actively makes me feel on edge as I listen)

And while St. Vincent obviously isn't in that same class of women, she's still an artist intentionally defying our view of gender - it's just funny to me that, here on this forum that so clearly favors rock above other genres, we are ignoring one of the most successful artists to make it big in that genre in the current era, who also has a lot of connections to forum favorites.

I guess what's frustrating me is that, until running these polls, I thought St. Vincent was viewed as one of the consensus best artists of the 2010s, among both men and women.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "Bodak Yellow" straight-up takes the flow and beat from a track by a male rapper (Kodak Black). So in a way you are doing the same thing? Also, it is for me personally one of the aspects of the track that rubs me the wrong way.
I personally think the track is just mediocre, but I respect it's place in the culture. I personally like to rank tracks by my personal enjoyment, and not by what I deem "important." If I did, then hell yeah, "Bodak" would be in my top ten of the year.

For what it's worth, St. Vincent would be on my artist list, so if you would like, I will quickly put together an artist list for the poll. I haven't made my list because I wanted to take my time with it, but I can adjust.

I just listened to No Flockin, and even if they're similar, the production and delivery on "Bodak Yellow" blows it out of the water.

As far as a list goes, I don't want you making one just because I'm being whiny. Only do it if you want to (and like always, I'm willing to extend the deadline - I still have to compile all the information such as pictures and possibly quotes that I plan to use in the presentation).

Top 250 albums

1. BJÖRK "Debut" (1993)
The very first electronica album that I really loved, cause it supposed a brand new use of the voice in a predominantly instrumental style or dominated by soul divas. And the voice of Björk is possibly the most unique in pop history, balancing perfectly the confidence and the vulnerability, the virtuosity and the spontaneity, the craft and the extravagance.

2. PJ HARVEY "To Bring You My Love" (1995)
Polly Jean Harvey diminished (just a little) the rawness and bluntness of her previous works and transformed herself into a glamorous, oblique, theatrical and sophisticated diva. And not losing the edge along the way, replacing the explicit representation of female sexual desires by no less disturbing tales of twisted loves and unsettling religious imagery.

3. NINA SIMONE "Little Girl Blue / Jazz as Played in an Exclusive Side Street Club" (1958)
"While this was her first recording, the record's grooves evidence an artist who arrives fully formed " (Thom Jurek for AMG). Recorded with a spare format of jazz trio, the album showcases the versatility of Nina, her blues/gospel/jazz roots but also her classical training (there's a piano solo on "Love Me or Leave Me" where "Bach meets Horace Silver and Bobby Timmons").

4. LAURYN HILL "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" (1998)
Yes, I know, "CrazySexyCool," "Brown Sugar" and "Baduizm" were released before, but it was Lauryn Hill who brought the contemporary R&B to both its creativity pinnacle and to the Grammys. But, contrary to posterior R&B divas, she didn't need any famous producer or any rapper behind, she was able to rap, sing, write and produce all her material. And brilliantly.

5. LOTTE LENYA "Lotte Lenya singt Kurt Weill" (1955)
More that twenty years after her exile, Lotte Lenya came back to Berlin to find it in a period of recovery but with the wounds still open. Aptly she took up again where she left, giving new life to the songs from the old Weimar days, backing her fragile but expressive voice with out-of-tune pianos ("Bilbao Song") or amateur-sounding banjo and harmonium ("Moritat").

6. PORTISHEAD "Dummy" (1994)

There are some odd omissions, perhaps. I'm not talking about artists that don't do much for me (like Madonna), but artists that actually do. Some of them, like Tori Amos, Jesca Hoop, Feist, Ella Fitzgerald, St. Vincent, Lucinda Williams, Hope Sandoval, Goldfrapp, Mahalia Jackson and others, I just haven't heard enough to rank them, even if I liked what I heard. There are also a couple of artists, like Courtney Barnett, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Julien Baker and FKA Twigs, where I feel I still need to know where their careers are going before I can rank them. 2017 had a couple of great debuts, especially Phoebe Bridgers and Kelly Lee Owens, who I expect great things from, but this is not the place to celebrate them - yet. There are a couple of relative newcomers that I did rank though, like Angel Olsen, Aly Spaltro, Lorde and Mitski, but somehow they feel like they have developed in several direction already.
